The Chain Bridge was the first permanent bridge over the Danube River at Budapest. It is also one of my favorite bridges anywhere. The bridge was designed in 1839 by William Clark, an English engineer, and opened in 1849.

While hiking today we came across a large broken down, thoroughly rusted structure. We could see an axle, and multiple wheels for a possible pulley structure, a large collapsed tower or arm, and many struts littering the ground everywhere. This chain had made it's way very close to the trail, and is so solidly rusted that it no longer moves.

The Széchenyi Chain Bridge (Hungarian: Lánchíd) is a suspension bridge that spans the River Danube between Buda and Pest, the western and eastern sides of Budapest, the capital of Hungary. It was the first permanent bridge across the Danube in Budapest, and was opened in 1849.
It is anchored on the Pest side of the river to Széchenyi (formerly Roosevelt) Square, adjacent to the Gresham Palace and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and on the Buda side to Adam Clark Square, near the Zero Kilometer Stone and the lower end of the Castle Hill Funicular, leading to Buda Castle.
The bridge has the name of István Széchenyi, a major supporter of its construction, attached to it, but is most commonly known as the Chain Bridge. At the time of its construction, it was regarded as one of the modern world's engineering wonders.[citation needed] It has asserted an enormous significance in the country's economic, social and cultural life, much as the Brooklyn Bridge has in New York and America. Its decorations made of cast iron, and its construction, radiating calm dignity and balance, have elevated the Chain Bridge to a high stature in Europe. It became a symbol of advancement, national awakening, and the linkage between East and West.
We stopped at Chain of Rocks on the Illinois side of the Mississippi and walked across the bent bridge to the Missouri side. This was an old Route 66 Bridge. We even saw a group of American White Pelicans in the Mississippi River. The Bridge is now a biking and walking path between the two states.

I figure we've all been here right? A lot of things we have to take care of, can't stop thinking, another day creeps up on you without you ever actually falling asleep. I just wanted to make a piece that showed how upsetting responsibility can be sometimes.
I took this shot at night. Main light (camera right) was provided by two flashes that shot through the bedroom's main window from outside. I softened the light by taping a $1 thin disposable table cloth from The Dollar Store across the window, and I added some gels to the flashes to warm it up.
A second light source was provided through the window on the west wall (bottom of the window frame can be seen in the shot) the same way as the main light was. I only used one flash for this one though.
