I discovered this chain around an old tree stup in the church lot. Apparently it used to keep a children's chained down to keep it from being stolen. This angle is in the sun and with Lightroom's help I was able to get some excellent shadows. Here is opened the f-stop up to bring more of the field into focus.

This was actually my second idea for the "Where dogs don't belong challenge" wayy back when! Dogs don't belong chained up.
Now we did some positive chain association before I attempted this shot. Chain near Buddy=4 billion treats and tons of love. So he was fine with being wrapped up. However! This was one of three shots I took before he let one little shiver escape. The combo of sitting on snow and being all wrapped up was just too much for Bud, even though he was trying to suck it up. It absolutely broke my heart. Immediately the chain came off and hardcore TLC ensued. I cannot imagine how dogs who are forced to be chained up alone for long hours everyday must feel :(.

I flamework links of Pyrex glass by hand, one at a time, without molds. I developed and honed this time-consuming technique to build lengths of chains and piles of delicate-- but strong-- transparent necklaces. The clasps are also flameworked in glass.

LRGB composite of the Markarian's chain in the Virgo cluster. This was shot from a bright sky lit by the full moon and the resulting gradients were a nightmare to remove. It would need a lot more light to properly show the wonderful tidal interactions going on with a few of the galaxies on the chain.
Total integration time L 2h (10min subs), RGB 3h/channel (20 min subs).
I was waiting at a red light last summer in downtown Baltimore, MD, when
I was bemused at the sight of these two African American males walking down Baltimore St., wearing chains.
I wondered if they ever realized that most likely their ancestors were brought to this country in chains, & what those ancestors might think at seeing their decendents wearing them voluntarily.
