I haven't found any descriptions of Candi Asu Bandungan in any of the catalogues of ancient Hindu-Buddhist temples of the Central Javanese Period (7th-10th century).
The stone carvings and the motives seem to be very distant from the Hindu iconography of Candi Gedong Songo or from the iconography of any of the Hindu-Buddhist temples of the Central Javanese Period.

Near the main temple were visible various sculptures, among others one Agastya, one Durga, one Mahadewa, one Wishnu and two bulls.

The old city of Semarang is a very beautiful place. Inherited by the Dutch, the buildings adopted European architecture which sorry to say, many are not suitable for Indonesia tropical climate. Nowadays, the buildings in the old city are mostly abandoned, and sadly this beautiful place had transformed to the city’s slum area.
