Punthuk Setumbi Hill is one of the best spots to watch the Borobudur sunrise from an altitude of 400 m above sea level.

The warmth of the sun in the morning reveals the fog blanket that covers Borobudur Temple and wakes it from its place.

Can u spot the UNESCO Heritage Site (Borobudur) in the mist?

Fly Bat, Black & White.

It is devotional practice to circumambulate around the galleries and terraces always turning to the left and keeping the edifice to the right while either chanting or meditating. In total, Borobodur represents the ten levels of a Bodhisattva's life which he or she must develop to become a Buddha or an awakened one.

One goes to Sologriyo to visit a Hindu temple, but this time the temple was in reconstruction (from the base, so no temple to see). But what it was charming and even striking were the rice fields, the landscape you pass while you get to the temple: terraces of green rice fields in an interminable 25 minutes walk.

Mendut is a ninth-century Buddhist temple, located in Mendut village

really beautiful to see the green tree in front of the home while relaxing

Borobudur is the largest Buddhist temple in the world, and ranks with Bagan in Myanmar and Angkor Wat in Cambodia as one of the great archeological sites of Southeast Asia. Borobudur remains popular for pilgrimage, with Buddhists in Indonesia celebrating Vesak Day at the monument. Borobudur is Indonesia's single most visited tourist attraction.

I like the unlikely ornamentation in the palace of Yogyakarta "Sultanate." It may be a Makara or a hybrid of Makara and dragon.

At the time in which these monuments were built, Indian pilgrims had spread Buddhist and Hindu teachings spread across Java, Indonesia. The proud ruling dynasties of Central Java built a seemingly endless number of structures, of all scales.

"Buddhist and Hindu religions lived harmoniously side by side across Java, and as families of different religions married, even mixed religion temples were built"

The adaption of Indian religion and customs with the local artistry and traditions bred its own unique style; “Hindu-Java Art” .

Just a quick pop in to say hi :) As expected.. I haven't had the time to flickr but it is definitely great to be out about and around Asia again. Always amazing to see and appreciate UNESCO site like this. I am now on my way to Central and Eastern Europe for the next couple of months. In the meantime, continue to have fun!

Borobudur is a 9th-century Buddhist Temple in Central Java, Indonesia. It is the largest Buddhist monument in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Tugu Jogja was built around one year after the construction of Yogyakarta Kingdom. At the early time of its construction, it clearly described the philosophy of the unity of God's creatures that means the spirit of togetherness of lay people and authorities to fight colonials. In Javanese term, the spirit of togetherness is called golong gilig that is clearly described in the construction of the monument: the pole is of gilig (cylinder) form and the top part is golong (rounded). This monument was known as Tugu Golong-Gilig.
