This May 2013 Eclipse Maximum was as viewed from Sydney and was part of Saros 138 cycle (31 of 70).
Starting at 7:49am and finishing at 10:14am, the moon covered roughly 39.2% of the suns disk at 8:56am.
"Celestial Burning"
It's hard to imaging this combination but just this past weekend I was out scouting for an up coming long exposure night photography workshop and came upon one of the most shocking night photographs I've made to date.
At a glance the beautiful early summer Milky Way captures the eye but one quickly notice the fire burning on the hillside north of Osoyoos, British Columbia.

A semidivine celestial musician to the gods is shown playing a flute, standing beneath the canopy of a flowering tree. This bracket figure was intended to decorate a pillar capital of the interior of a Hindu temple of the western Chalukyas. Temples of the southern Deccan favored the use of such figures of celestial musicians and dancers, poised at an angle between the capital of a pillar and the temple's interior ceiling stones to form a bridge between the worldly and heavenly spheres, and to make explicit the notion of the temple as a heavenly palace.

Much like the Marut, a Kolyarut is an Inevitable - a celestial mechanical being designed to track down those who violate the laws of the universe. Kolyaruts hunt contract and oathbreakers, often with a copy of the oath in hand. They can disguise themselves, and are adept at weakening and draining their opponents (like robo-vampires). They are also kind of conversational, totally willing to reason with you if you'd rather fulfill your contract than take a sword in the gut.
Also, they've got great fashion sense for a C-3PO.

Comet "Pan-STARRS" made a subdued, but nevertheless beautiful appearance in the sky last evening (March 12, 2013). The comet was accompanied by a shining sliver of the new moon. The photograph was taken from a ridge crest in the Santa Monica Mountains, at the edge of the Los Angeles neighbourhood of Tarzana. The lights of Woodland Hills and Calabasas glitter in the foreground.
Other than a contrast adjustment and some mild sharpening, this photo is straight out of the camera. I recommend looking at the full-size image, which will enable you to see some wispy detail in the tail of the comet.
