Oh what a morning I've had! At 4am I was delayed on the road because of a fire, and then chased the sunrise hoping I wouldn't be late to the lake that was an hour away. I arrived, and the lake wasn't a lake at all, but a puddle from the summer sun. Instead of seeing all the mistakes, I tried to see the potential. The lake was warm from being dried up; I didn't have to freeze. The sunrise was unmissable, and the possibilities were endless.

Self-portrait, shot on the Sony A7II and 50mm lens...and a lot of mud.

In this captivating image, the vast expanse of the night sky unfolds above a mesmerizing cactus field, creating a striking juxtaposition between the celestial realm and the earthly desert landscape. The scene is set in a remote location, far away from the bright lights of civilization, allowing the stars to shine with unparalleled brilliance.

The overall ambiance of the scene is one of tranquility and awe. The soft, cool hues of the night sky blend harmoniously with the warm earth tones of the cactus field, creating a balanced and captivating palette. The stillness of the desert night is broken only by a gentle breeze, rustling the cactus spines and adding a subtle movement to the scene.

This photograph serves as a reminder of the grandeur and beauty that exists beyond our earthly boundaries. It invites us to contemplate our place in the universe and the sheer magnitude of the cosmos while appreciating the delicate harmony found in the coexistence of the rugged cactus field and the majestic Milky Way.

The Silk Lodge is a trading exchange built in Valence in the 15th century. La Llotja de València represents the economic power of the city at the end of this century. It was designed as a temple of commerce.

La Llotja, a civil monument in the Gothic style, was built between 1482 and 1498 by master stonemasons Pere Compte, Johan Yvarra, Johan Corbera and Domingo Urtiaga, who finished it in 1548. Its thick walls, tower and battlements give it the appearance of an old castle. The Lonja is made of four parts:

the Consulate of the Sea Room (Sala del Consulat de la Mar), to the left of the Tower looking at the facade,

tower,

the Hall of Columns (Saló Columnari or Sala de Contractació), to the right of the tower,

the courtyard of the orange trees (Pati dels Tarongers).

The area of the monument exceeds 2,000 square meters between the built-up areas and the others.

The Salon aux Colonnes is a large hall with three longitudinal naves. The main door is a Gothic door which is accessed by a few steps. The tympanum features a Virgin and Child, patroness of merchants. Two large windows surmounted by the arms of the city surround this door. On the side facade, another door opens, also framed by two windows.

The Salon is covered by a set of ribbed vaults resting on slender helicoidal columns almost 16 meters high. We wanted to see there the representation of paradise whose columns would be the trunks of palm trees and the vaults would represent the celestial vault or the leaves of the palm trees open at the very top. The municipality installed here the taula de canvis (exchange table) to carry out the financial and banking operations of that time. Along the highest part of the four walls, at the birth of the vaults, runs a dark frieze on which is inscribed in gold letters a Latin text which reminds traders of their duties as merchants and good Christians. : not to use usury in their trade in order to be able to gain eternal life in this way. The inscription reads: “Illustrious house, I was built in fifteen years. Countrymen, check and see how good is the trade that does not use fraud in word, that promises its neighbor and does not foul, that does not lend its money with usury. The merchant who lives in this way will be overflowing with riches and will, at last, enjoy eternal life. »

The night sky above a mountain in Snæfellsnes, Iceland. We had started driving more and more into the middle of nowhere when we came across this awesome looking mountain. We jumped out of the car, turned off the lights and the amount of 'astro-stuff' you could see was phenomenal!

This clearness in the sky didn't last for long and the stars were soon hard to photography due to light pollution. The upside is that this light pollution was caused by the aurora borealis. BONUS.

This is Lake Huron one morning covered in steam. Clouds in the background. I am definitely a dedicated photographer because it was -10 degrees that morning and I had no gloves.

This is my favorite pine tree (or at least what's left of a pine tree). And it's got a pretty decent view of the landscape as well.

When the Sun goes down Monday evening, step outside to watch the best sky show of the year. Jupiter, Venus and Moon - three of the brightest objects up there at night - will be closest to each other then.

Jupiter and Venus have been rapidly coming towards each other for the last few days, a phenomenon that will not be visible against till 2012. And soon they will have the Moon for company.

The celestial triangle will be visible from all parts of the world, even from lightly polluted cities.

This glittering ball of stars is the globular cluster NGC 1898, which lies towards the centre of the Large Magellanic Cloud — one of our closest cosmic neighbours. The Large Magellanic Cloud is a dwarf galaxy that hosts an extremely rich population of star clusters, making it an ideal laboratory for investigating star formation.

Discovered in November 1834 by British astronomer John Herschel, NGC 1898 has been scrutinised numerous times by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. Today we know that globular clusters belong to the oldest known objects in the Universe and that they are relics of the first epochs of galaxy formation. While we already have a pretty good picture on the globular clusters of the Milky Way — still with many unanswered questions — our studies on globular clusters in nearby dwarf galaxies just started. The observations of NGC 1898 will help to determine if their properties are similar to the ones found in the Milky Way, or if they have different features, due to being in a different cosmic environment.

This image was taken by Hubble’s Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) and Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3). The WFC3 observes light ranging from near-infrared to near-ultraviolet wavelengths, while the ACS explores the near-infrared to the ultraviolet.

A quiet night above Bavaria — the Milky Way stretches across the sky like an ancient river of light.

Captured with a Canon 6D and the Samyang 14mm f/2.8, this shot overlooks a peaceful chapel near a still lake, with the Alps quietly resting in the background.

The soft glow on the horizon is not a sunset, but distant light pollution – a gentle reminder of civilization beneath this starry dome.

If you’ll indulge me in a story (as you usually do, and I thank you) – 7 years ago I spoke at my first conference, After Dark. The man running it, Dave Junion, took a big chance on me. I had no experience. But I was a fireball of passion. I came and spoke and taught and little did I know, but that man taught me an unimaginable amount about life and creating. He taught me that art is play, and that I should always remember that.

At that conference, he introduced me to the people who run White House Custom Colour. I sat down with them, at my very first sponsor meeting, and started out the way any reasonable person would: by telling them that I have absolutely nothing to offer. Just kidding, no reasonable person would do that. But I did. Facepalm.

I told them I can’t really use their products and that they have no reason to sponsor me. “It’s okay,” Mike said, “we just want to help good people do good things in the world.” And from that day on, WHCC sponsored me to speak about my story at various events, and even makes a monthly contribution to The Light Space.

I learned to set the bar very, very high. That if I am going to be in this business, the standard cannot be views/likes/shares/numbers. We cannot be reduced to that. My bar is set at kindness and will never waver. Through connections, like those with Dave and WHCC and so many more, I have learned that there are people who want to support good people, and that the best people remember that all of this – art and life – is play. Thank you for those lessons.

Now, I proudly DO use WHCC for my prints after working with them to develop their fine art section, and they are giving away a large, framed fine art print to the lucky winner today. Leave a comment to enter telling me about what values are most important to you. <3

Maybe there's somewhere out there light years away where people live in peace and harmony, for it could take light years to cure this planet of the unrelentless and spreading cancer of hatred and intolerance - if ever?????

In the year 2250, a group of elderly humans finds solace and nostalgia in a space diner called "Celestial Echoes." Adorned with captivating alien paintings on its walls, the diner becomes a gathering place for the old generation. They share stories and memories, inspired by the cosmic artwork that fuels their imagination.

However, their haven is threatened when a corporation plans to demolish the diner for a new hyperspace hub. Determined to preserve their cherished space, the elderly patrons launch a grassroots campaign, inspiring the younger generation to join their cause.

Their fight gains attention, turning Celestial Echoes into a symbol of preserving human history and culture. Through their collective efforts, they succeed in saving the diner, transforming it into a cultural hub that bridges the gap between generations and species...to be continued...
