Once touted as the "Pride of Wayne", the demolition of the Wayne Theatre is anything but. It opened in 1927 and is now half demolished at time of writing.

No one thing I have came into contact with during my entire life has made as much of an impact on me as the Wayne Theatre has. Since the time I received my first tour of this magnificent place when I was 12, I joined volunteers attempting to restore it. Around the same time I began to notice the great movie palaces of Detroit and soon all architecture as a whole. If it weren't for the Wayne I would have never taken any interest in Detroit or photography.

I can't help but feel melancholy over the whole situation. It is almost as if this building raised me. A piece of me is missing, and it didn't have to go. To me, this serves as another reminder why the city of Wayne will never be anything but a pathetic sprawl of used car lots and parking. This structure could have been a great catalyst to a revitalized downtown. Why not take a chance on restoring this gem instead of all the failed other attempts of brick pavers, banners, and oh, that $89,000 mural...because everyone is going to say "lets put a business in Wayne because it has a mural!."

Scott Kelby's Photowalk in Clarkesville, Georgia

The ceiling of Avenues Bakery. I love that place and that ceiling.

I had been planning to visit St Thomas More's Catholic church in Sheldon for some time;. It is built of concrete in a kind of semi-circular 'fan' layout crowned by two fins forming a central fleche. It is the work of Richard Gilbert Scott and opened in 1967.

I found the interior quite stunning, covered by a sweeping layered roof and enclosed by walls of coloured glass (by John Chrestien) in rich blues and oranges throwing strips of coloured light onto the floor. On the rear wall is an odd sequence of symbolic applique windows with coloured glass granules (some coming apart) and two separate chapels with further abstract glazing. I really liked this church, a little known modernist gem.

Quinta da Regaleira

Sintra, Portugal

Quinta da Regaleira is an estate located near the historic center of Sintra, Portugal. It is classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO within the "Cultural Landscape of Sintra". Along with other palaces in this area (such as the Pena, Monserrate and Seteais palaces), it is one of the principal tourist attractions of Sintra. It consists of a romantic palace and chapel, and a luxurious park featuring lakes, grottoes, wells, benches, fountains, and a vast array of exquisite constructions. The palace is also known as "Palace of Monteiro the Millionaire", from the nickname of its first owner, António Augusto Carvalho Monteiro.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

This hall entrance is open to public and you are free to photograph. The only problem is you have too many visitors so you can't have the place to yourself. The easiest way to omit the crowd from your image is to aim high.

The Sistine Chapel ceiling (Italian: Volta della Cappella Sistina), painted by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512, is a cornerstone work of High Renaissance art. The ceiling is that of the Sistine Chapel, the large papal chapel built within the Vatican between 1477 and 1480 by Pope Sixtus IV, for whom the chapel is named. It was painted at the commission of Pope Julius II. The chapel is the location for papal conclaves and many other important services.

I can't find any markings on this, but it has a Lightolier feel to it. Any ideas??

Sistine Chapel Ceiling. Vatican. The Creation of Adam(center).

The Sistine Chapel ceiling, painted solely by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512, is one of the most renowned artworks of the High Renaissance.

Location to a part in Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. The story involves a conflict between an ancient group, the Illuminati, and the Roman Catholic Church and symbologist Robert Langdon in the middle of it. The cardinals are sealed at Sistine Chapel during the mysterious ritual of conclave.

St John

Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland, UK

The church of St Michael & All Angels stands close to the centre of the picturesque village of Broadway and was built in 1840 to the designs of architect Harvey Eginton, replacing the medieval church of St Eadburgha which remains in its beautiful but less practical isolated position some distance into the countryside.

The church is an impressive building, Early English in style with lancet windows and a plaster vaulted ceiling over the nave that adds drama to the interior. There is a fine 17th century pulpit brought from the old church but otherwise the furnishings are contemporary with the building and later.

St Michael's is normally kept open and welcoming to visitors.

The Golden Ceiling inside the Doge's Palace

Los Angeles, CA – This fancy display of masterful carpentry and exquisite wood placement is inside the Millennium Biltmore Hotel. It was built in 1923 and at in its prime had 1500 rooms. After modernization the room count comes to less than half that. It makes one wonder how small the original rooms where.

It was LA’s first landmark hotel and the largest hotel on the west coast when it was built. The place looked like it should have been in Chicago - it’s hard to believe that something this grand and ornate is located in downtown Los Angeles.
