Scott Kelby's Photowalk in Clarkesville, Georgia

The ceiling of Avenues Bakery. I love that place and that ceiling.

I had been planning to visit St Thomas More's Catholic church in Sheldon for some time;. It is built of concrete in a kind of semi-circular 'fan' layout crowned by two fins forming a central fleche. It is the work of Richard Gilbert Scott and opened in 1967.

I found the interior quite stunning, covered by a sweeping layered roof and enclosed by walls of coloured glass (by John Chrestien) in rich blues and oranges throwing strips of coloured light onto the floor. On the rear wall is an odd sequence of symbolic applique windows with coloured glass granules (some coming apart) and two separate chapels with further abstract glazing. I really liked this church, a little known modernist gem.

Siena's Cathedrale di Santa Maria, better known as the Duomo, is a gleaming marble treasury of Gothic art from the 13th and 14th centuries. www.sacred-destinations.com/italy/siena-duomo

This hall entrance is open to public and you are free to photograph. The only problem is you have too many visitors so you can't have the place to yourself. The easiest way to omit the crowd from your image is to aim high.

Ely Cathedral has a vast, spacious feel to it, in part because of the magnificence of its roof space. This shot shows the octagonal tower space as well as the main nave ceiling, both of which have beautiful paintings and decoration

Rome, cinema Nuovo Olimpia. One of the few remaining original objects of the former music hall Teatro Olimpia is the cast iron window in the roof of the audtitorium. See www.cinebazar.it/riv1a000238.htm

Notre-Dame, is a medieval Catholic cathedral on the Île de la Cité in the fourth arrondissement of Paris, France. The cathedral is widely considered to be one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture.

I can't find any markings on this, but it has a Lightolier feel to it. Any ideas??

The church of St Michael & All Angels stands close to the centre of the picturesque village of Broadway and was built in 1840 to the designs of architect Harvey Eginton, replacing the medieval church of St Eadburgha which remains in its beautiful but less practical isolated position some distance into the countryside.

The church is an impressive building, Early English in style with lancet windows and a plaster vaulted ceiling over the nave that adds drama to the interior. There is a fine 17th century pulpit brought from the old church but otherwise the furnishings are contemporary with the building and later.

St Michael's is normally kept open and welcoming to visitors.

My digital SLR is in need of repair or replacement and has laid dormant for some time now. While I still enjoy taking pics with my iPhone there are moments I really wished I had an SLR in my hands.

A ceiling from an abandoned house in Pila Laguna..Romantic simplified baroque floral motif.

This ceiling is found all throughout my childhood home. I scrapped my hand and head on it several times while jumping on my bed. The texture is rough not like the smooth ceiling that I now have. I'm sure it too has a name but I don't know what to call it.

This is my ceiling shot with camera down on the ground of my bedroom. I've used a split tone filter in LR only.

A mock Medievael/Gothic exterior with some interesting 'building innovation' by the builder (who was an accountant - not an architect) not repeated since...mainly because they were so difficult to maintain- here some Examples: Fire places without a direct chimney, for instance, where the flue is built into the wall and there is a window just above the fireplace. Plumbing of waste water in lead pipes directed inside walls, often getting blocked and difficult to clear....just to mention two impracticalities.

Built 1840-3 for a family from Liverpool it became a holiday home for the Potter family (Beatrix visited first time in 1882 aged 16) later with many different tenancies following. Successive owners stripped the place of most of the original interior and today it is mainly a shell. The National trust is inviting the public to help direct the future of the castle and set it on a profitable course of preservation for the future. The castle only just opened to the public after a prospective tenant was unable to obtain funding for their plans to turn it into an exclusive hotel, the Trust have done an excellent job so far.
