Thank you to all those who expressed their sympathy following my moment of dysfunction on a bicycle, resulting in a crash on the pavement.
Only a few years ago, I did a similar thing where the wheels tangled with the kerb at the edge of the street, resulting in a crash on the grass footpath. I got a broken collar bone on the left shoulder from that one, and my experience is that broken or injured shoulder parts are the most uncomfortable and painful injuries you can have, as they affect your arm motor skills so much in everyday life.
This time I landed on the right shoulder, and while the collar bone was ok, the flesh and joints all around the shoulder are swollen resulting in similar motion loss, due to excruciating pain.
I have know almost stopped using my left hand to lift my right hand to the PC mouse - almost.
I am hoping that by the end of the coming weekend, I will be able to get back on the two wheeled horses, sleeping in my garage. Anything to stop using the bus to commute to work.
I hope you are all well and I will try to do some catchup on your photos, as abstince makes the heart grow fonder.
PS MY daughters comment on the reconstruction photo was a joke . . . . I hope.
Kanta lives underneath a bridge on the Kamo river. Most cats in Japan are shy of strangers, but Kanta is friendly with everyone and has a following of regular visitors who provide food and love.
Photographed during the second week of 2012, but developed, scanned, and uploaded today.
Scanning catchup finally completed. Negatives have been gathering dust! North Yorkshire as seen by my Soviet 1950's Moskva 2 folding medium format camera monstrosity. Negs are 6x9cm scanned using xsane software in Linux. Involved DIY kitchen sink witchcraft developing shenanigans. Used Czech Fomapan B&W 100 film developed in exhausted chemicals! These are unedited scans as from 2480 Epson Scanner. Not bad for a beat up 1950's worn out camera. Will get them off my doorstop computer asap to a mobile android device for some proper editing as snapseed is for me really the only proper photo editor of any use nowadays. Everything else is so complicated!
For the photographers out there: do you have a mental list of photos you've always wanted to take? It's important to have some goals with photography - too often we just shoot and shoot with the aim of getting "better", but really, what happens years later, when we've accumulated thousands of photos? Hobbies are great, but they do have a tendency to get bigger without you realising, until you get a little squirmy, trying to figure out just what you're doing all this for.
This mental list of photographs is something i'm only sometimes aware of. I've always wanted to take a photo of old men, lined up on benches, doing nothing in particular. There's a certain generational charm about it. I probably saw a photo which inspired me many years ago, or it could be any number of movies - Requiem for a Dream comes to mind, although it's old ladies instead of old men, suntanning themselves with reflectors.
I spied these guys and had to pluck up the nerve to actually go up and take the photo. It was tremendously confrontational - i don't speak Italian, and we were in a tiny town in the middle of Abruzzo, a quiet region of Italy only now appearing in travel brochures. I asked my Italian friend if he'd do my dirty work and ask them for me. "Nup, if you want the photo, go do it yourself" was his reply. Rightio, well, i've got nothing to lose...
So i went up to them, pointed at my camera, indicating i wanted a photo and they seemed to understand. I took a few quick shots, then ran over and showed them. Each of them adjusted their glasses and laughed with each other as they saw themselves on the tiny screen. I wished i could have given them a copy with those little Polaroid Zink printers...
I jumped back in the car, happy with my shot. My friend turned to me and said "You know what? You totally made their day. They're going to be talking about that for a week."

Coffee and a catchup at Charing Cross.
Please check out Aaron Yeoman's amazing work:

As I mentioned in another photo, Charing Cross Disused is often used to trial new schemes before they are rolled out onto stations. Here you can see spotlights lining the ceiling as part of an LED lighting trial. They weren't that good in the end!
All the OTIS escalators here at Charing Cross Disused no longer work. The movement of the escalators as shown in films are created through an optical illusion: cameras are fixed to rails to track the movement of somebody running up or down one side of an escalator, whilst extras stand on the other side.

I was on my way to a catchup with a couple of my friends, when I met Jayden and Mollie. I was taking photos near Westminster Chapel when I spotted them sitting in front of the blue doors. Jayden waved when I took a photo in their direction (I missed that shot though!) and then I approached them.
They are both college students studying in Kent. Mollie is studying Fashion and Jayden is studying Sports science. When it comes to football, Mollie is a Middlesborough fan and Jayden follows Arsenal. They met through a mutual friend in college.
Jayden is passionate about football and used to play as a defender. He now coaches his own side.
Mollie's passion is in her field of study and she hopes to one day live in either Paris and pursue her dream of working in the fashion industry, but also harbours another dream of moving to California and take up surfing.
I enjoyed our brief encounter and wish you both all the best. Thanks for taking part in my project!

We were able to get away for a couple of days for a long weekend. And it was just what was needed. The best part is that we all got caught up on our sleep and now are ready for the week to come.
