On Monday, July 24th at approximately 7:40 pm, St. Catharines Fire & Emergency Services were dispatched to an address on Smith Street near Wright St for a report of a structure fire. Multiple callers had notified 9-1-1 that heavy black smoke was coming from a large one-storey industrial building and dispatchers could see smoke from their location at SFES Station 4. First arriving crews encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from a concrete structure at the rear of a casting facility; the building was fully-involved. It took approximately 70 minutes to bring the flames under control, and heavy equipment was brought to the scene to assist with overhaul due to large concrete walls that had collapsed. There were no reported injuries and a cause was not immediately known.
We've had a busy day today, I'm still struggling with my sinuses but Chap is finally better so we made it to all our normal Monday actvities for the first time in ages! Afterwards I took him to a local farm to see all the animals. He loved the aviary and the guinea pigs :)
At the park this afternoon the sun was casting really long shadows. It was the first time Chap has really noticed shadows and he was fascinated!

this mold is a product of about 6 hours work. it is another mold taken off of the plastar positive that is made of sand with a binder in it that sets up to stiffen the sand. this is able to withstand the heat of molten metals such as aluminum, brass, bronz, copper, and iron. the grey portions are painted with mold wash (it stiffens the sand further and makes it more resistant to the heat to preserve detail).
the piece on the left has a core placed inside it. this is used to make the casting hollow. it is vented to allow gasses to escape.
