Here tunnel sections -discernible by the pattern of green rebar- are being built inside the basin. Once finished they are to be made watertight, then floated out into the channel, submerged, aligned and attached to one another. I'm not sure why they did this instead of building a temporary coffer dam across the channel and building the tunnel in place but it's certainly more interesting and gives the scuba guys a more important role. It could have to do with a nearby subway tunnel -Boston's Red Line subway goes directly underneath the new highway below the channel floor- which would have precluded the pile-driving usually involved in building a coffer dam, or the role the channel plays in draining the surrounding area.

The process by which these were made was not so slick as the lost wax technique that was being used by most manufacturers of high end frame parts by the 1980's. These look like the were cast in sand with parting powder between the two halves. It took quite an effort to clean each shell with those casting marks running deep into the thick metal.

Original, one of a kind broom casting. This was made by melting down sterling silver, and pouring the silver into a straw broom immersed in water. As the silver cools off, it drips down into the straw, making unique, solid sterling silver organic shapes.
Incredibly unique, unusual and they were a blast to make. Lots of flame, molten metal, and smoking, steaming straw was involved!
Two holes are drilled into the top of the casting, one on each side, perfect for two jump rings, to string on a necklace.
