Flowers on the bank at Douglas Reservoir.

Ft Collins, Colorado

This view of 12,093’ Carter Mountain was taken just after sunset from the Half Moon Oil Field south of Cody, Wyoming. The mountain is composed of andesite flows and flow breccias, andesitic volcaniclastic rocks with minor volcanic tuffs. These rocks belong Absaroka Volcanics Supergroup which are the remnant of a volcanic field that was active in the Eocene between 53 and 43 million years ago.

This facility, now an art academy, has the inscription of the title of this image above the arched front entrance. Carter once was headquartered here.

Another shot of Carter-Shields Cabin in Cades Cove Tennessee.

Robert Shields moved his family into Cades Cove in the early 1820s to avoid a typhoid epidemic at Chilhowee. He established one of the earliest Cove tub mills and sponsored early Cove industries of forging and milling in partnership with D.D. Foute and “Fighting Billie” Tipton. He was active in the Baptist Church and served as Justice of the Peace and member of the County Court.

I just got my first iPad, and I edited this using the LR app on it. I'm not sure I like it much as I don't have complete control that I've gotten used to on my PC. I guess I need to go look it up on YouTube to see what else I can do.

Two quotes from Carter, a brave leader

Spartans never die Jorge, there just missing in action.

Six, that AI chose you, she made the right choice.

Carter made a brave sacrifice to save Cortana and Noble Six.

Remember where is all began, Remember Reach

This was the nearest I ever got to Carter, Wyoming. Inspired by a Flickr post from Mark Hemphill I dug into the archive and brought up this from the memorable Big Boy chase on May 6, 2014.

I have processed another, earlier frame but switched off the PC before the Dropbox had a slim chance to synchronize.

Carter is effectively a ghost town with population zero. The UP tracks follow the Muddy creek down from the Altamont/Aspen area until it flows into the Blacks Fork west of Granger. Highway 412 is crossing the meandering creek where the utility pole line meets the road.

I had shot video footage at Leroy but I didn't take Leroy road (a gravel road) to Carter, mostly because I just didn't have a clue it went there (without a co-pilot looking at the DeLorme atlas it can be tricky making decisions). I took US30/Hwy 412 instead until I realized that I had no chance to beat it to the crossing and pulled over. I am glad it worked out better than anticipated. Some traffic violations were included in making this shot possible...

One of the camera clubs that I belong to arranged a private tour of this cave we were allowed to take our tripods. For four hours we were the only ones allowed in the cave. The only thing they asked was no flash where the bats were. These photos were all long exposure without flash.

Emile: "Mother-... We can get past it sir!"

Carter: "No you can't... Not without help."

Emile: "Commander, you don't have the firepower."

Carter: "I've got the mass."

Emile: "Solid copy... Hit 'em hard boss..."

Carter "You're on your own Noble."

Built in the 1930s by Carter Shields, a Civil War Veteran, who retired to this cabin in Cades Cove and lived here between 1910-1921.

I took a few months off from photography and Flickr. I'm back but not on a daily basis.

Last week I seriously picked up my camera and headed down to Oceanside to shoot with Steffi Carter. She was kind enough to work with me for a couple of hours. This was the first photoshoot that I did exclusively with a Rotolight NEO2..

The camera settings were f4.0, 24mm, 1/160, ISO 100. The NEO was on camera right at 100% power and was without a modifier.
