While I take many sunsets (who doesn't) I don't usually post them. This is a particullarly beautiful one just off Carlsbad, CA. The sun is just barely touching the water.

Carlsbad Cavern, New Mexico. 750 feet down in cavern. there is an elevator. The climb out is pure Hell. Steep incline to reach the opening. As we get closer there is a horrible stench from the bats which also make the caverns their home.
Photos have alot of noise, I did not take a tripod on this journey.
This was stop five, I think, on the Southwest adventure tour with Tom, Kathy, Wilson, Tofu, Reagan and myself. Carlsbad Cavern includes a large cave chamber, the Big Room, a natural limestone chamber which is almost 4,000 feet (1,220 m) long, 625 feet (191 m) wide, and 255 feet (78 m) high at the highest point. It is the fifth largest chamber in North America and the twenty eight largest in the world. Hard to imagine when you are down there, that this is only 5th. Kathy and I spent some time shooting the cave before the crazy speed demon kids showed up with Tofu and Grandpa. The tripods were a requirement for sure. I tried bracketing the images, but in the end the single darker images were my favorite. Shooting the family down there was as hard as I thought it would be. So was getting the boy to stay quite. Reverence? Not Wil. I think the whole cave listened to Wil sing songs from the Muppet's
Most Wanted film. Over, and over and over.....

Honestly, nothing ruins a back roads ride than a bloody camper.
There I was, having a blast cruising up the twisty road to Carlsbad Caverns when, wham, I come up on a camper trailer putters along at 30 miles an hour slower than me.
Life simply sucks when there is no passing lane.
The Carlsbad Flower Fields are in full bloom! I went over there yesterday with my visiting brother-in-law and it was fun trying to capture the spectacular fields of color. We took tons of pics, but I wanted to get the rest of the pics from Northern California posted before I started on these, but I started looking at them and decided to post at least one two. :)
