My refurbishment on this Revox A77 Mk1 circa 1969 is now complete. This was the more desirable high speed version (15 & 7.5 IPS). The old Tantalum capacitors replaced with modern electrolytics, old Rifa spark suppressors replaced along with all new trim pots and some high wattage resistors. New brakes and hubs fitted. Still running on the original hub motors and capacitance motor. I’ve treated it to brand new RMG LPR90 tape and performed a full recalibration. I may replace the heads in the future however they still have plenty of life left in them.

In early overhead line practice, it was believed to be important to even out the electrical capacitance between the conductors and earth by changing their order every so often along a route. With single-circuit towers, this was achieved by having one tower in the opposite orientation to the rest. Over the course of two spans, the three conductors change places.

Upon observing the shape of the edges, I realised that the capacitance of the oscilloscope probes was interfering with the quality of the measurements. To correct for this, I later switched each of them over to the 10x setting.
This is the faulty component in the left-hand channel: a 220uF capacitor that I measured on the multimeter at 17nF. The lack of capacitance made the regulator go into oscillation as the voltage was turned up. The top of the capacitor is slightly bulging, which is a sign of failure.

It works ! Amazingly, a solenoid shape antenna made of silver coated textile gives better results than our good old copper plates... We should patent that but i think the conductive thread antenna are now classic in patent websites :)
The PmodCDC1 is a capacitive sensor that uses the Analog Devices AD7156. By communicating with the chip via I2C, users can set the Pmod for an adaptive capacitance threshold that changes with the environment or set static thresholds that only trigger when a certain capacitance is reached.
Innards of the 360 flash. The batteries are gettable, but a replacement cap may be hard to source. Have yet to really look. Though the capacitance is good, it seems to be very leaky... won't charge above 100V with fresh batteries.

I find the stock "float" style fuel level sensor that Van's recommends to be inelegant, so I'm going to install some capacitance probes instead. The only problem is that the sensing part of the probe needs to be straight, and with the slosh baffles in place there aren't a lot of good places to run one. This is the best solution I came up with, just forward of the lowest point in the tank to the top aft corner of the second bay. This should give me about 5 phantom gallons at the high end and probably less than one at the low end. I've placed an order for the 24" probes and we'll see how they work.

The unit underneath the Pioneer receiver is the FCF prototype unit. Production unit comes in smaller chassis. This concept sometime is difficult to understand not to mention the effect has to be heard.

I found this sort of design in a Microchip appnote. If it works well enough, I might consider it for future projects. It should be good for otherwise unused pins and doesn't cost anything extra.
I think I will have to get a cap-meter. Jyetech has a pretty cheap kit that can measure from 1pF to 500µF. The pF-range should be useable for the sensor pads. That way I can do without guesswork when selecting the size of the storage capacitor.
I'm planning to use a timer-based repetitive charge-transfer-method to measure pad capacitance, not the more simple RC-timed method.

I decided to convert this magnetically-operated Pulsar Ladies’ Cushion-shaped wrist watch (Model 2407-2) over to Touch Command in operation.
I settled on this route as that the module that came with the watch was damaged by battery corrosion, and I chose not to send it out for rebuilding.
I purchased some new-old-stock Pulsar 801 modules from an enormously helpful, former owner of a Pulsar repair facility, with the hope that I could retrofit one of those 801 modules, to this Model 2407-2 watch.
Due to the 801 module’s design, its LED display is situated higher in the Time Screen than the original display was, but this is fine.
I removed the original module and the two original, magnetic-type Command Buttons from the watch.
I decided to make new and fixed-in-position, capacitance-enabled buttons that would utilize (but not alter) the existing holes for buttons in the watchcase.
In so doing, I have preserved the ability to switch back to a magnetically-operated watch in the future, should ever I decide to.
I no longer have the access to materials and tools like I used to, so I obtained my button-making stock from the tangs of a stainless steel, steak-carving fork.
I carved and fitted these replacement buttons by hand, using the tools that I have available to me at this point in time.
The buttons are seen semi-finished in images where they are not mounted.
These buttons are now potted in epoxy, so not much effort was exerted to finish the circumferential profile of them to a high level.
Ultimately, the crown of them was finished consistent with the finish of the watch case.
The recipient watch was manufactured in approximatley late 1974 and early 1975 and I decided to leave some of the ‘honest wear’ in the restored watchcase.
Each button makes the mechanical and electrical connection of a copper wire, via two tabs that were crimped over the wire like a solderless connector would be.
These copper wires were then shaped to make contact with the new module’s contacts for the time and the date functions.
Both of the copper wires loop in different directions, with one being open at the top and one being closed at the top.
This was done so that the module’s bushing could be swung into place over the contacts.
The bushing hooked under the 12 o’clock contact, and swung over the 6 o’clock one.
The bushing was needed due to the smaller outside diameter of the 801 Module in a watchcase that wasn’t intended for it.
The bushing was made from the plunger cap of a medical syringe.
I made a new battery strap for the 801 module as that the batteries have a different size and layout from the original module.
I use 393/309 batteries with this 801 module.

This Test Board was located at the telephone exchange (DCO, Dial Central Office) in Building 123 here at WSMR until 1988. These analog Test Boards were used to test telephone lines for open circuits shorts, grounds and capacitance. It was also used to apply 90-volt ringing current when testing or processing calls. This test board could also be used as a switchboard to connect telephone lines together.
