This is a canvas I did just a little while back, and now waiting for a German artist Flying Fortress to finish it. This is a pretty crappy photo of the canvas, this is also an old photo where it is still unfinished. 24x18 strechted canvas.

Serie: Lienzo/Canvas
Texto-Contexto-Textura-Textil-Tejido-Tela
Al comenzar la presente serie, el espacio de ‘materialización’ de la misma, sus límites, habrían de ser fijados como una tela. Un espacio aparentemente vacío, o liso, y que sin embargo, como describen Gilles Deleuze y Félix Guattari, es estriado en su estructura física.
Un espacio en principio estriado, transformado en liso, en lienzo… A la manera del óleo sobre una tela que, si bien supone unos límites claros, permite dentro de los mismos infinitas posibilidades. Espacios lisos que brotan de lo estriado, y viceversa, todo bajo (o sobre) la capa de cualidades hapticas que el material permite.
El tejido, por otra parte, contiene relaciones temporales de gran interés. Como explica Alejandro Hernández, la tela que Penélope teje mientras espera a Ulises, que deshace y vuelve a hacer en un proceso sin fin, se convierte en un testimonio del paso del tiempo. Fibras que contienen tiempo y proceso. Al igual que sucede con la pintura.
Construcción vs Reproducción
La fotografía suele en ocasiones entenderse únicamente como instantánea. Captura de momento y objeto. Lo que aquí se pone sobre la mesa, es tanto una revalorización del proceso (con todo lo que éste implica), como mostrar que la fotografía puede de hecho construir (sin suponer esto necesariamente un montaje), devenir una máquina generadora. De hecho casi siempre lo es. La intención de la serie es simplemente hacerlo evidente mediante la generación de una serie de proyecciones o ‘dibujos’ que cambian, se conectan y transforman.
Se trata de una serie potencialmente sin fin, cambiante, modificable… Una serie líquida, si así puede decirse. Un proceso que no cesa de construirse, de reiniciar, de extenderse y contraerse. Es únicamente la necesidad práctica de establecer límites, la que hace que se decida tal o cual ‘inicio’, tal o cual ‘numero’, y tal o cual orden de secuencia, pues se trata en realidad de un proceso con unos límites indefinidos. Serie abierta a desviaciones, continuidades o intersecciones, a cambios de dirección y mutaciones.
“The canvas is never empty“
La fotografía posiblemente sea el medio de expresión en el cual el lienzo se encuentra mas lleno. Aquí, sin embargo, y en relación paradójica, se ha buscado una desterritorialización de la fotografía ‘clásica’ para convertirse en un lienzo en blanco, y posteriormente reterritorializarse, hecho en el cual es posible observar nuevos objetos, una nueva especie de mundo exterior, volviendo de este modo a convertirse en un lienzo lleno –o llenado-, en un hecho que no deja de recordar a la cueva de Platón.
Es importante, sin embargo, dejar en claro que esto no se opone directamente ni excluye a lo figurativo; simplemente inicia una búsqueda para establecer nuevas relaciones y distorsionar limites. Se trata de una experimentación o búsqueda de nuevas relaciones y límites más flexibles. Por supuesto, la estética como elemento puro no deja de ser emocionante, y confieso que varias de estas imágenes han logrado hacerlo. Esta es una de las razones por las que la presente serie no busca ni limitarme a ésta única forma de representación, ni tampoco reingresar permanentemente a lo figurativo (sería absurdo alcanzado este punto). No se trata de una declaración de hechos, sino de posibilidades. Una presentación de cuestionantes, mas que una proclamación absoluta y unívoca...
Por último, llegado uno de los límites de la fotografía –dos dimensiones-, no deja de acercarse a la serie la inclusión del tiempo en sentido literal, de modo que la construcción de un video llama. Y se declara además necesaria para “completar” la serie (entendiendo que en principio, realmente nunca cesará de construirse).

This is quite large - 4 feet square - and has much more impact in person than as a small digital image. It was fun to paint and I'm doing a series of these - all large faces.
Hold the gun close enough to melt the crayon but not close enough to burn it or splatter the wax. Unless that's what you're going for!
