Tribal Canoe Journeys is a celebrated event for the Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast. Nations from the coast of Alaska, British Columbia, and Washington state participate every year in these Tribal Canoe Journeys. These are a sequence of canoe journeys taken up by canoe families, nations, and groups who travel in ocean-going canoes, either authentic replicas of traditional canoes, made out of solid cedar logs or various replicas using more modern techniques and materials.[1]

Tribal Canoe Journeys of Pacific Northwest Native American Tribes, a significant cultural event that takes place once a year.

The Puyallup Tribe of Washington State was the host tribe for 2018 for all the Canoes sent by other tribes along the Pacific Northwest Coast. Tribes all along the coast traveled via paddling their traditional Ocean Canoes, beautiful, functional and ornate! These Canoe teams traveled from as far as Alaska, including far stretches of Vancouver Island, British Columbia and far stretches of Oregon Coast. Paddling for 4 to 6 six hours a day, some for over ten days, battling ocean current, heat and sheer physical exhaustion.

Each Canoe was fitted with a GPS Transponder and its latest position was updated in 30min intervals in the Website : paddletopuyallup.org/

Man Paddling and Man Fishing in Yellow 'Mad River' Canoe

An antique canoe paddle made by Old Town shows signs of its age and use. It was hand painted in a traditional Ojibwe design, each of which has its own symbolic talismanic meaning, paying tribute to the spirit world of the clan from southern Canada. Crafted as an art piece to be displayed on a wall, it can be positioned as desired by a universal swivel eye mounted on its reverse balance point. It is also suited for free-standing display as pictured here. The art piece is protected with two coats of ultra flat polycrylic finish.
