we took a canoe out on steamboat lake, which just made my summer complete. now it really, truly can come to an end.
These canoes were made on Day Island, WA, within walking distance of where I live, and are now quite the collector's item. I've had the privilege of paddling one of these beauties, as I was once part of a family that owned one of the very early models.

Inside are life jackets, all sizes, for the kids. I really hate calling them portable flotation devices; they're life jackets, meaning, if you wear them, they can save your life. More organization: the kids come down, put up their tag to say they're on the dock, pick up their life jacket and paddle, and off they go with their canoe leader. The Y has been running Camp Howdy for (I think) something like 50 years.
Following my sunrise morning photo solo paddle, and after a brief on-shore recuperation (kneeling in a canoe after a while takes its toll on your ankles), I ventured out onto the lake again, this time in the company of Tom Fullerton. In addition to enjoying the early morning lake and the ducks, we had a great conversation, and had a chance to share some wonderful stories.
Tom's comments during the #Unplugd closing circle were that much more meaningful as a result of this paddle on Saturday morning.
