All Nations Canoe Gathering - Vancouver, Canada

My favorite kind of fishing: plug casting for bass. For years, I used to toss my canoe into San Francisco Bay, near the Richmond - San Rafael bridge and toss plugs - jigs mostly - among the bridge pilings in quest of stripped bass, using my fresh water plugging outfit that you see here. I once tied into a 19 pound striper using this rig, but most were in the 5 - 10 pound range. The motor hanging off the back side of the canoe was necessary because the currents running through there, especially on a big tide, were a bit rough to handle with a paddle. With the motor, I could throttle back and hold steady while nosing into the current and tossing my jigs among the pilings. I haven't done that in quite a few years, but we recently gave the canoe to one of our sons, who bought a new motor for it, and who knows? maybe we'll get out there again.

In order to take this shot, I clamped my Nikon-F on to one of the struts, turned on an add-on self timed, and scrambled back into position, grabbed my rod, and the camera went off at just the right moment - all without tipping the canoe over...

These can be rented at Interstate State Park in Taylors Falls MN for a one way trip down to William O'Brien State Park and then they'll shuttle you back. I think it's $45 for the canoe, 2 life preservers, 2 oars and the shuttle. What a great day that would be. They must have 400 canoes stacked up waiting to go.

When I first ordered Elkie, i had always imagined her in a Hiawatha style canoe. I never imagined that she would ever own one.

This is all thanks to the wonderful Scarlett Empress and her Mum! This is just perfect.

Later in the year I shall dress Elkie in her default costume and make her a paddle and a fishing line.

Taken after leaving the Little Festival at London Fields, which was a bit boring, like this photo. I'd wandered out of London Fields hoping to buy some badges from Pete's mum's stall… but it wasn't there!!
