Cano Cristales, "rio de cinco colores" or "the rainbow river" in La Macarena is quite the sight during the months from mid-July to November, when the endemic plant Macarenia clavigera "blooms" red. The circular pits, called kettles, result from rocks falling into depressions in the sedimentary rock, which is then swirled around by the current gradually hollowing out the bowls. Between the colours, rapids and waterfalls and the clear waters, it is considered one of the most beautiful rivers in the world.

If you go to Colombia, you can see Cano Cristales in all its splendour. Often called "the most beautiful river in the world" as well as "the river of five colors," Cano Cristales is one of those places you have to see to believe. Many different kinds of algae and moss flower in a glittering display of colors.

El rió de los siete colores o también llamado el rió mas bello del mundo, debe su colorido a una pequeña arbórea acuática endémica llamada Macarenia Clavijera que cambia de color según la intensidad del sol que reciba. Se encuentra ubicado en el Parque Nacional Natural Sierra de la Macarena en Colombia, Una serranía en la cual convergen tres de los ecosistemas mas grandes del planeta: la Amazonía, la Orinoquía y los Andes.
