Before I went to Cano Cristales in Colombia, I had no idea that there was a section of the river that had thick, bright green algae and so it was a bit of a bonus that I got a few shots that I liked in this section.
You may be looking at this shot and think that it was pretty straight forward to get, but I'd like to tell you a little about why it was more challenging than it looks and what I did to solve the problems.
First off, in order for the greens/yellows to pop, I had to take the picture when there was a certain amount of sun light on the river (rather than full shade from the clouds which would have made for a more balanced over-all exposure).
The problem that arose with the sun light being on the river, however, was that all the white parts on the rock were over exposed (after taking a proper exposure of the greens in the river).
The next issue with the sun being out was that it created fairly harsh shadows and so that had to be dealt with by taking yet another exposure.
The end result was that I took three different exposures and then meticulously blended them together (manually) in PS. It was far more time consuming than what one might imagine but I'm happy with the results, which in turn makes it worth the time.

CANOA DE PUNTA UMBRÍA Y HUELVA.
La Ría de Huelva y sus marismas, especialmente el Paraje Natural Marismas del Odiel, son un enclave natural de enorme importancia, reconocido incluso como Reserva de la Biosfera por la UNESCO.
🌊 La Ría de Huelva
Formación: Es el estuario que se forma en la desembocadura de los ríos Tinto y Odiel, confluyendo justo al lado de la capital, Huelva.
Ubicación: Se sitúa en la costa occidental de la provincia de Huelva.
Importancia Histórica y Económica: La Ría ha estado tradicionalmente ligada a la actividad portuaria, la pesca y la industria minera de la provincia, siendo el punto de carga de minerales (como lo demuestran los antiguos muelles de mineral de Riotinto y Tharsis). En las últimas décadas se han hecho esfuerzos para que la ciudad vuelva a mirar hacia su ría.
🐦 Las Marismas del Odiel
Son la joya natural de la Ría, un extenso humedal de más de 7.000 hectáreas que se extiende entre los dos ríos.
Ecosistema Único:
Se caracteriza por la mezcla de aguas dulces y saladas, creando un ambiente salino que genera una red de marismas intermareales, caños y esteros.
La influencia de las mareas y la alta salinidad son clave para su rica biodiversidad.
Biodiversidad (Fauna y Flora):
Aves: Es un refugio crucial en la ruta migratoria Europa-África y un paraíso para el avistamiento de aves. Destacan especies como los flamencos, la espátula (símbolo del Paraje), garzas, cormoranes y el águila pescadora.
Otros Animales: También alberga mamíferos como nutrias, zorros y ginetas. El camaleón es otra especie característica.
Vegetación: La flora está adaptada a la salinidad, incluyendo especies como la espartina marítima, lentisco, sabina y taray.
Actividades Sostenibles:
Salinas del Odiel: Aún se realiza la extracción tradicional de sal mediante técnicas no invasivas, combinando el desarrollo industrial con la conservación ambiental.
️ Visita y Disfrute
Para conocer el paraje, puedes visitar el Centro de Recepción de Visitantes Anastasio Senra, desde donde se organizan diversas actividades:
Rutas a pie, en minibus o en tren neumático.
Rutas especializadas para avistamiento de aves o para conocer las salinas.
Paseos en barco por el estuario del río Odiel.
El paraje también integra la Playa del Espigón, una playa salvaje.
En resumen, las Marismas del Odiel son el contrapunto natural a la actividad portuaria e industrial de la Ría de Huelva, ofreciendo uno de los humedales más importantes y ricos en vida del sur de España.
