The title is apt...if misleading. TRUE I was camping, and YES the picture of camping is shown in polar (ish) coordinates, but if you're looking for arctic crazy blizzard camping then this is not it. This was in January on my way to Vegas a couple years back. I was fascinated with the polar shots a while back, but never got what I considered an actual winner. This was probably my favorite though, so I thought I'd share. Its from the same time as my last post, buried in the archives. I have tons of new shots to share, but I'm too indecisive and have been sitting on this forever.

As mentioned in the previously posted pic, Travus' Troop was at a Camporee last weekend (as was Austin's Cub Scout Pack).
When I told Chizuko that the "boys and I" were going camping for two nights (for the Camporee) she did what I expected of her; she asked if she could join (this, among other reasons, is why she's my wife ;-) ). The answer was that she could.
Picture at sunrise of the tent that Chizuko, Austin, and I stayed in amidst the other Troop tents (Austin had to stay with us as he's not a 'Boy Scout' yet).

Camp Bay is a popular coastal area located on the southwestern edge of Gibraltar, known for its natural beauty and relaxed atmosphere. Unlike the sandy beaches found elsewhere, Camp Bay features a rocky shoreline and a man-made lido, making it a favorite spot for swimmers and divers. The clear, deep waters are ideal for snorkeling and exploring marine life, while the sunbathing terraces provide stunning views across the Strait of Gibraltar. It’s also home to the remains of historic military structures, reflecting Gibraltar’s strategic significance. With a laid-back vibe and local eateries nearby, Camp Bay offers both relaxation and a glimpse into the area’s rich history.
Went down to Shimoda during the long weekend (last Monday was a National holiday).
So happens that I'm *not* the only foreigner in Japan with a camping car. Was contacted a few weeks back from the fellow on the left as he had discovered some of my RV shots on Flickr and was happy to see that there was at least one other foreigner in Japan driving around in a RV. His family has two boys of similar ages to my two which is a *huge* plus as they all get along and play well together!
5xp freehand HDR shot taken of our two families "camped" out in the field just off the Tatado Hama beach in Shimoda, Japan.
Eureka Dunes camp. The dunes are off to the left. This was going to be an interesting camp. As things turned out, several Flickr friends all happened to be in the park at the same time. I arranged a sort of mini-meeting. Tune in tomorrow for who showed up.
I was hoping to find a motel room in Escalante for the night, but every room in town was booked. There was a quad convention in town. So, after a nice dinner and a couple of beers at the Circle D Eatery, I went in search of a place to camp. It was beyond dark by now, so I headed down Hole in the Rock Road a piece and pulled out. It was a tad windy, so I stuck my head up towards the Jeep trying to keep some wind off.

I wanted to make a photo concept but it didn't worked so here's a simple photo.

Camping on the shore of Lake Moogerah, Qld.
I bought tent pegs with lights in the top that illuminate the tent.

Up early to see the sunrise at Upper Saline Valley Warm Springs, Death Valley National Park.
Odd that Flick's map labeled this at Teakettle Junction.
Just got back from Dundee, NY. I visited Camp Tintype, John Coffer's farm for the Wetplate Jamboree. I had a chance to shoot a few night shots.
First night camping. You can see the sleeping platform I built in my Jeep. Works pretty well. And since I'm just 5'8", I can sleep inside a 2-door Wrangler just fine.
I'll have to do a review of my JeepSleep ® sometime.

Another one of the shots from our camping trip to watch the Lyrids meteor shower. No shooting stars in this one though,,,just some good times around the campfire.

Gray jay, aka camp robber, aka Canada jay, aka whiskey jack, at Pelican Point in Yellowstone National Park a few weeks ago.
Of all the common names (Perisoreus canadensi is the proper name), camp robber is the best description. These guys were boldly landing on our picnic table, and one gleeful nailed a big piece of tuna salad that fell out of my sandwich onto the ground.
Also, I'd love to know how these little guys came to be known, in Canada, as "whiskey jacks"!

Here’s another Vertorama from a couple of weeks ago… taken shortly after sunset... at Camps Bay beach.
Although I’m not a big fan of these of long-exposure, silky-water type shots… I must say that I really like the light on the top of that flat stone in the foreground and on the two big rocks on the left and right. And of course… who wouldn’t like this sky full of deliciously pinky clouds!?
Here’s something new that I’m going to try out… with nearly 1,400 Flickr contacts, I see a lot of photographs every day! Of course not all my contacts post a photo every day… some only post one a week or month… and some haven’t posted anything for several months. But it’s safe to say that I view at least 350 photos per day! Of course, I don’t comment on all of them (even if I wanted to, I could never find the time to do that)… but I do view a heck of a lot of images every day. While most of these images are of average quality… there are always a couple that blow me away! So… from today I’d like to start including a link to my own personal favorite shot of the day… the one image that really made me sit up and take notice… the kind of image that I aspire to shoot and include in my own portfolio. The first image that I’d like to show you (if you haven’t already seen it) is this one by the very talented Philipp Klinger!
Nikon D300, Sigma 10-20 at 10mm, an aperture of f16 and a 2 second exposure.
