Happy weekend everyone! Another photo from our Springtime camping weekend. This time processed with my very first, very own texture. How exciting. It was fun to do and I welcome any and all feedback. How do I make this better??
We're scorching here in the UK this weekend. High 80's and no a/c. No complaints from me though...Long live summer!

This weekend was our confirmation retreat. Back again at Koinonia after a long absence. Not a lot of kids on this one, but some nice photos.

Needed to get outside today for a hike after yesterday's mini blizzard and snowstorm. Yes, it is very cold here today at about 8 degrees above zero and windy, but I'm dressed for Fairbanks, Alaska! LoL
I was surprised the road was even plowed, but it made hiking a little more pleasant1

Camp Cove, in Sydney's Watsons Bay, is a sheltered harbour beach, frequently photographed for its scenic sunset vistas and sweeping harbour panoramas. The location also serves as the starting point for the South Head Heritage Trail toward Hornby Lighthouse.
It has a history spanning thousands of years of Indigenous custodianship and key moments in European maritime and military heritage.
Indigenous History:
• Traditional Owners: The area was traditionally used by the Cadigal and Birrabirragal people, who knew parts of Watsons Bay as Kutti.
• Resources: The cove provided a crucial freshwater spring (known as the Duck Pond), sheltered waters for canoeing, an abundant supply of fish and shellfish, and coastal campsites.
• Cultural Sites: The headlands feature historic rock engravings, shell middens, and traditional burial sites. Indigenous families continued to camp in the area through the 1840s and up until the 1880s before displacement.
European Settlement and First Landfall:
• Captain Phillip’s Landfall: On January 21, 1788, Captain Arthur Phillip landed here during early explorations of Port Jackson after finding Botany Bay unsuitable for a penal colony.
• Early Contact: The First Fleet officers recorded friendly early meetings with local Indigenous fishing parties on the beach, though relations later strained due to colonial disruption and the devastating 1789 smallpox outbreak.
• Naming: The cove earned its name from the initial campsite set up by Phillip's exploratory party.
Maritime, Scientific, and Military Uses:
• Water Police and Pilots: In the 19th century, the cove operated as a base for water police, harbour pilots, and lifeboats. Robert Watson (after whom Watsons Bay is named) beached his vessels here and later served as harbourmaster.
• Marine Biological Station: Between 1879 and 1881, Russian scientist Nicolai Miklouho-Maclay built a small cottage at the southern end of the cove, establishing the first marine biological research station in the Southern Hemisphere. The site was later repurposed for military housing in 1885.
• Defense Infrastructure: Because of its strategic view over the Heads, Green Point and Camp Cove were heavily fortified from the 1850s through both World Wars—featuring anti-submarine boom net installations, rifle walls, and proximity to later naval training facilities like HMAS Watson.

The first three nights of our six night camping adventure were spent at Balsam Cove Campground on Toddy Pond. We had a great time and roasted a lot of weenies :)
