Isolation seems like an unavoidable part of caregiving. When juggling a job, other family members and responsibilities on top of the loved one’s care, there is no time left for anything else. My photo journal became my connection to the rest of the world. I could share information with other caregivers and learn from them, while also keeping my family up to date on my mother’s condition. It was my way of saying, “She is still here.”
Sometimes friends and family can’t handle the pain of seeing someone decline. They drop out, explaining, “I prefer to remember her as she was.” The caregiver doesn’t have that choice. The caregiver still has a person who needs to be hugged, loved, bathed, clothed, fed and kept active. Even though they forget us, we can't forget them.

Lobo Marino (Otaria flavescens), también llamado lobo marino chusco, lobo marino de un pelo, león marino del sur o león marino sudamericano, es un mamífero marino de la superfamilia Pinnipedia que habita en las costas de Sudamérica, de Chile, Perú, Uruguay, y Argentina.
Son de color pardo oscuro cuando adultos y negro cuando jóvenes. Los machos adultos habitualmente pesan unos 300 kg, el doble que las hembras, y poseen una capa de pelo castaño rojizo sobre el cuello. Esta "melena" es la causa de que sean llamados leones marinos.
Viven en colonias de unos 15 individuos, formadas por el macho, su harén y unos pocos jóvenes. Durante el verano, en diciembre y enero, se trasladan a parir a sitios protegidos donde se congregan miles de animales. La gestación dura casi un año y cada vez nace una sola cría. Durante la época de reproducción, los machos entran en combate por el control de su territorio y por las hembras, y es usual que no se alimenten,viven alrededor de 25 a 50 años.
Su comida son peces, pulpos y calamares, comen entre 15 y 25 kg de alimento por día y, a su vez, son presa de las orcas. El ser humano los cazaba para obtener carne y aceite; pero la principal razón para perseguirlos era que la piel de las crías recién nacidas, llamadas "popos" (del inglés puppy), tiene uso en peletería.
Habita las costas sudamericanas, tanto en el Atlántico como en el Pacífico. Se encuentra desde el sur de Brasil hasta la Tierra del Fuego argentina y desde bahía Zorritos, en el Perú, hasta el extremo sur de Chile respectivamente.

The South American Sea Lion or Southern Sea Lion (Otaria flavescens, previously Otaria bryonia) is a sea lion found on the Chilean, Peruvian, Uruguayan and Argentine coasts. It's scientific name was subject to controversy, with some taxonomists referring to it as Otaria flavescens and other referring to it as Otaria byronia. The former eventually won out.
Males have a very large head with a well developed mane making them the most lionesque of the eared seals. Both males and females are orange-coloured with upturned snouts. The manes on males are lighter than females, and female fur on the head and neck is lighter than that of males. Pups are born black or dark brown and molt into a more chocolate colour.
South American sea lions feed on a variety of fish including Argentine hake and anchovies. They also eat cephalopods, such as shortfin squid, Patagonian squid and octopus. They have even been observed preying on penguins and young South American Fur Seals.
South American sea lions normally hunt in shallow waters less then five miles from shore. They often forage at the ocean floor for slow moving prey but they will also hunt schooling prey in groups. When captured, the prey is shaked violently and torn apart. The sea lions themselves are hunted by orcas, sharks and cougars.

The Bad Boys from Boston, American rockers Aerosmith headlined the first of two nights of the Calling Festival newly relocated to South London’s Clapham Common.
The Steven Tyler-led rockers brought their unique blend of entertaining rock to a damp London evening, re-energising the sodden crowd with a mixed set drawn from their extensive back catalogue as well a cover of The Beatles 1969 hit Come Together. They began the 18-song set with Mama Kin from their 1973 eponymous debut album before moving onto Get a Grip hit Eat the Rich and Pump classing Love in an Elevator.
Hits Walk This Way and Dude (Looks Like a Lady) also featured before the encore was opened with classic Dream On featuring Tyler playing piano and Joe Perry playing guitar … on the piano!
It’s surprising just how much energy the 66-year-old Tyler and 63-year-old Perry convey up on stage with such engaging performances and on-stage hijinks that kept the crowd enthralled from the outset until the closing bars of Toys in the Attic classic Sweet Emotion.

Out in the prairie Culver's Root is blooming. Also in view are Royal Catchfly, Prairie Dropseed, Wild Blue Indigo, and a Black Walnut that popped up from a forgotten squirrel burying.
This is my Project Quilting up cycle entry. I started out with an old pair of jeans, Christmas ornaments and an old quilt. As I worked of figuring out what to do, I found some potpourri that was crying out to be added. I liked how all the browns, cream and gold worked with the denim background. Everything made me think of being outdoors and at peace with nature.

He began as a speck on the horizon.
My attention was drawn to the waves and the wind and I thought no more about the speck until it came closer.
Then I could see him, walking barefoot on the edge of the water, at that point where the water reaches the shore but withdraws leaving a shimmering film of shining shells.
He had his faithful dog with him, walking along looking up at him every now and again, but never leaving his side. His pawprints lingered in the sand for a few moments before being washed away by the next wave.
I watched his measured approach, seeing saltwater on his face, the spray of the sea mixed with silent tears.
I smiled. He smiled.
He stood for a moment looking up at the clouds then whispered
"I'm just waiting for my son."
