I was on the dog walk and could hear three Buzzards calling to each other, so I changed direction and walked toward the sound. I was so close, it was so loud, but I still couldn't pinpoint it and was looking all around - then I looked up, duh! :-)

My boyfriend Leighton has been talking about starting another music project, mainly focusing on electronica-based influences. I think he should really pursue it, so I shot some promos for him tonight.
The project is called Midnight Calling; he should have a Myspace page up and running soon for the music.

The Nutshell Pram was designed by Joel White for composite construction in marine plywood and epoxy.
Prams have a transom fore and aft. The one forward is smaller than the one aft.
There are many such designs by different designers over the years. Joel White's Nutshell Pram is one of the very best.
Prams are deceptively simple boats.
As dinghies, which is what the Nutshell Pram was designed for, their job is to safely carry as much as possible from beach to boat and back again while being as easy as possible to carry aboard. They need to be as burdensome as possible (by "burdensome" we mean "carry as much as possible") yet be light enough to handle easily. They need to be easy to row, yet should be able to carry a small gas or electric motor for longer trips. And, it's always nice to be able to sail them.
The Nutshell Pram can do all of these things, and it does all of them exceptionally well.

This is the 40th year of the TRF and I believe it is the largest Ren Faire in the country. It is a great event - lot of great people and photo ops everywhere. I took these photos on 11 October 2014.

The Madrid Deep Space Communications Complex (MDSCC) is a ground station located in Robledo de Chavela, Spain, and operated by Ingenieria y Servicios Aeroespaciales, S.A. (INSA) for Instituto Nacional de Técnica Aeroespacial.
Deep Space Network
It is part of NASA's Deep Space Network run by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The facility contributes to the Deep Space Network's ability to provide the vital two-way communications link that guides and controls remote control drones and receives the images and new scientific information they collect. This complex is one of three NASA Deep Space Network complexes in the world; the others are the Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex located in California, near the city of Barstow, and the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex in Australia which is close to the city of Canberra.
Functions
The antennas and data delivery systems make it possible to:
Acquire telemetry data from spacecraft.
Transmit commands to spacecraft.
Track spacecraft position and velocity.
Perform Radio Astronomy (both single-dish and very-long-baseline interferometry) observations.
Measure variations in radio waves for radio science experiments.
Monitor and control the performance of the Deep Space Network.

What I believe to be a black-bellied plover (Pluvialis squatarola) calling out during a low tide at Pillar Point Harbor on Half Moon Bay. Anyone able to confirm this id, or have a sure-fire way to tell the different between a black-bellied and a Pacific golden plover?
