This is a photograph from the 4th and final round of the 2015 Mullingar Road League which was held in Belvedere House and Gardens, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Wednesday 27th May 2015 at 20:00. The weather was perfect for running and racing again and gave bright sunshine with some breeze. The weather conditions were favourable for runners this evening. As this was the final night of a very successful league there were many category prizes up for grabs with runners having to ensure they ran their races to gain the required finish times for the overall calculations. There was a great atmosphere at the finish as spectators cheered on the runners. This year's 5KM is ran on a modified route based on the route from the last couple of years. The final 1KM is within the Belvedere Gardens bringing runners down to the lakeside for a second time and finishing along the aptly named Stream Of Life. The route modification means that the race offers a slightly faster route than the hill finish of previous years. In the prize giving and awards in Belvedere House Cafe there were refreshments served for runners and this brought the curtain down on the Road League for 2015.
The race is promoted by Mullingar Harriers for the Pat Finnerty Memorial Cup. Competitors need to run 3 races out of the 4 races in May (any order) to be considered in the overall placing in categories at the conclusion of the league. Runners can also choose to just run one race without being considered for the overall league placings. Over 330 people took part in tonight's event bring the total from the four nights to so far to well over 1,400 runners. As with all of the previous weeks the new finish area provided a nice space for runners to stay around and chat in the evening sunshine. The Mullingar Road League 2015 is now over but has continued successfully and looks to add to the success in the history of this great series. Despite the bright evenings the photographic conditions in Belevedere are difficult so this photograph is part of a smaller than usual photograph set as there were many blurred photographs this evening.
The "Road League" is something of a misnomer but is an indication of the League's origins on the roads around Ladestown Mullingar prior to it's move into Belvedere in 2008. The Road League is the envy of many other races in the country as the Belvedere locations offers a completely traffic free 5KM route.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. I have done my calculations; I have taken existing data from the first child (abdominal girth; weight development) for empiric forecasts; I used non-linear, iterative complex calculation methods. They all led to the same result: The birth of our second son should have been this weekend.
Now it is Sunday evening and we are still waiting. The date of birth seems to be something completely illogical beyond any rationale. Will have to use my stoicism.
Fascinating.

Based on photo sampling calculations more than 1,680 people had gathered by 12:15pm in Spaight's Plaza for a UWM United rally. People voiced support for social justice issues threatened by Governor Walker's Agenda of stark cuts to public education and the middle class. Signs voiced support for a Recall Election of Republican State Senators, including Alberta Darling. Other sign holders and speakers voiced support for Solidarity of Workers, Teachers, Graduate Students, and Students at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and candidates in an upcoming election on April 5th for Milwaukee County Supervisor, and for Wisconsin State Supreme Court. The Internet also made a brief, in person, humorous appearance.

Senior research specialist Greg Leonard at Mt. Lemmon Observatory discovered the 19th-magnitude speck on January 3, 2021, exactly one year before perihelion. Orbital calculations revealed that the object had spent the last 35,000 years wending its way sunward after reaching aphelion at the chilling distance of around 3,500 a.u. Comet Leonard will pass nearest the Sun again on January 3, 2022, at 0.62 a.u. Two weeks before that on December 12th, it makes its closest approach to Earth at 34.9 million kilometers.
Magnitude estimates for comets are a little different than magnitude estimates for other celestial objects; for example, stars, planets, Moon, Sun. This description, taken from the web page "Light Curve of Hale-Bopp", makes these types of estimates much more clear:
General Concepts
The first step in obtaining a light curve of a comet is to obtain a series of estimates of the comet's brightness, the integrated brightness of the comet's head or coma. For relatively bright comets like Hale-Bopp, these estimates are typically made by (amateur) visual observers, who compare the comet's head to defocused stars of known brightness. The stars are defocused because the comet's head has size whereas, the stars are points of light. An observer defocuses the stars until they match the size of the comet's head. Then the relative brightness of the comet is determined by comparing the comet's brightness with the defocused comparison stars. The result is a magnitude estimate of the comet, the observed magnitude. [The brightness of stars is also expressed in magnitudes. The smaller the magnitude, the brighter the object. The brightest star in the sky, Sirius, is magnitude -1.5. Polaris, the pole star is about magnitude 2. Jupiter is about -2, and the faintest stars that can typically be seen with the naked eye (in very dark skies away from the city) are roughly magnitude 6-7. In contrast, the full Moon is about magnitude -13 and the Sun is approximately -26! A one magnitude change amounts to a factor of 2.5 in brightness. A five magnitude change is a factor of 100 in brightness.
A comet's brightness variation with respect to its distance from the Sun is often represented by a "power-law" formula:
observed magnitude = absolute magnitude + 5 log (delta) + 2.5 n log (r)
where delta is the Earth-comet (geocentric) distance in astronomical units (AU), r is the Sun-comet (heliocentric) distance in AU and n is the "power-law exponent." One AU is equal to the Earth-Sun distance - about 93 million miles or 150 million kilometers. In this equation:
The observed magnitude is what one sees when observing the comet from Earth.
The absolute magnitude is a quantity that is suppose to tell us something about the intrinsic brightness of the comet. For Hale-Bopp this number indicates an intrinsically bright comet. Unfortunately, this parameter really isn't absolute...it can change during the apparition. (In fact it has already changed during the apparition.)
The 5 log (delta) part of the equation takes into account how the comet's brightness changes with changing Earth-comet distance (delta). This assumes an inverse-squared relationship. That is, if the distance between the Earth and comet increases by a factor of 2, the brightness will decrease by a factor of (2) squared or four. A factor of 3 in distance results in a change of 9 times in brightness. This is a basic property of all light sources.
The last term, 2.5 n log (r), represents the change in brightness due to the comet's changing Sun-comet distance. If the comet's brightness varied by pure reflection, n=2 and thus, 5 log (r) or the inverse-power relationship. However, comets produce both dust and gas, thus providing more stuff to reflect light. Also, the Sun causes the gas to fluoresce. Because of this, a comet's brightness typically changes more rapidly with changing Sun-comet distance. The value of n defines how rapid this change is. For n=4, an overall average for comets, reducing the Sun-comet distance by a factor of 2 increases the brightness by 16 times (compared with the four times for pure reflection).
The two terms of most interest are the absolute magnitude and n. They determine the intrinsic variation of a comet's brightness.
Magnitude estimates at this time put this comet at ~+12.2. I took no defocused images of surrounding stars and made an attempt to calculate the magnitude of this comet myself. I'll take their word for it concerning magnitude estimates. Besides, this would require effort. Guys, you know me, I try not to do anything that requires effort.

Description: The calculation of the minimum distance between surfaces plays an important role in computational mechanics, namely, in the study of mechanisms composed by rigid parts modeled as (super)ellipsoidal surfaces. Computing the minimum distance between convex surfaces is crucial to determine if the rigid objects of a mechanism are in contact among themselves or with the surrounding environment. The exhibited equations formulate the geometric conditions that characterize the pair of points which declare the minimum distance between surfaces. Such points share a common normal vector. The proposed mathematical framework to solve the minimum distance problem relies on simple algebraic and differential geometry, vector calculus, and on the C2 continuous implicit representations of the surfaces. The employed methodology establishes a set of collinear and orthogonal constraints between vectors defining the contacting surfaces that, allied with loci constraints. Several examples are represented for both ellipsoids (central image, top row) and superellipsoids (central image, bottom row).

Plastic Fantastic Fun. For when I want to shoot film and not think about "calculations". It leaves you thinking "That was easy."
I love the battery grip and it's super light weight. With the nifty fifty (a lens that felt lost amongst my canon digitals) attached this thing is a featherweight "full framer", no crop factor here. My only peeve is that the focus points are thin and do not light to indicate focus lock. It's a great camera and the antithesis of the experience from a Pentax Spotmatic, Vivitar 220SL or Yashica TL-Electro.

A crystal structure of Spanish influenza hemagglutinin (trimer) bound to a computationally designed binder (green). The computationally designed protein binds hemagglutinin with high affinity and blocks the conformational changes in hemagglutinin that underlie its function, thereby neutralizing influenza. The crystal structure is virtually identical to the designed model, validating the design approach.

How do You Check Your Basal Body Temperature
The process of basal body temperature tracking is simple, but it does require some effort.
1. Before getting up every morning, you can use a special thermometer designed for basal body temperature, or a digital oral thermometer also known as mouth thermometer or temperature under tongue. You can take oral, vaginal or rectal readings.
2. If possible, take your body temperature at the same time every day. This may mean that you must set an alarm. You should try to stay within 30 minutes of the average time. Before the measurement, you should have at least five hours of sleep.
3. Draw the number of the basal temperature thermometer on the chart. You can use a fertility tracking app or track it yourself on graph paper. Look for a temperature change of approximately 0.4 degrees recorded in 48 hours. When this change lasts for three days or more, it may be a sign of ovulation.
4. Plan your most fertile days. About two days before you expect your basal body temperature to rise, you will be in your optimal pregnancy period. Remember, sperm can survive in your body for up to five days.

How do you Use a Basal Thermometer

This is a photograph from the 4th and final round of the 2015 Mullingar Road League which was held in Belvedere House and Gardens, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Wednesday 27th May 2015 at 20:00. The weather was perfect for running and racing again and gave bright sunshine with some breeze. The weather conditions were favourable for runners this evening. As this was the final night of a very successful league there were many category prizes up for grabs with runners having to ensure they ran their races to gain the required finish times for the overall calculations. There was a great atmosphere at the finish as spectators cheered on the runners. This year's 5KM is ran on a modified route based on the route from the last couple of years. The final 1KM is within the Belvedere Gardens bringing runners down to the lakeside for a second time and finishing along the aptly named Stream Of Life. The route modification means that the race offers a slightly faster route than the hill finish of previous years. In the prize giving and awards in Belvedere House Cafe there were refreshments served for runners and this brought the curtain down on the Road League for 2015.
The race is promoted by Mullingar Harriers for the Pat Finnerty Memorial Cup. Competitors need to run 3 races out of the 4 races in May (any order) to be considered in the overall placing in categories at the conclusion of the league. Runners can also choose to just run one race without being considered for the overall league placings. Over 330 people took part in tonight's event bring the total from the four nights to so far to well over 1,400 runners. As with all of the previous weeks the new finish area provided a nice space for runners to stay around and chat in the evening sunshine. The Mullingar Road League 2015 is now over but has continued successfully and looks to add to the success in the history of this great series. Despite the bright evenings the photographic conditions in Belevedere are difficult so this photograph is part of a smaller than usual photograph set as there were many blurred photographs this evening.
The "Road League" is something of a misnomer but is an indication of the League's origins on the roads around Ladestown Mullingar prior to it's move into Belvedere in 2008. The Road League is the envy of many other races in the country as the Belvedere locations offers a completely traffic free 5KM route.

Catlin certainly enjoyed hunting with the Indians, and described his own exploits in bringing down buffalo with gusto and graphic detail. He observed, with equally minute attention, that the buffalo provided everything the Plains Indian needed: "There are, by a fair calculation, more than 300,000 Indians, who are now subsisted on the flesh of the buffaloes, and by those animals supplied with all the luxuries of life. The great variety of uses to which they convert the body and other parts of that animal, are almost incredible to the person who has not actually dwelt among these people, and closely studied their modes and customs. Every part of their flesh is converted into food, in one shape or another, and on it they entirely subsist. The robes of the animals are worn by the Indians instead of blankets-their skins when tanned, are used as coverings for their lodges, and for their beds; undressed, they are used for constructing canoes-for saddles, for bridles-lariats, lassos, and thongs. Catlin came to believe that the buffalo would be wiped out, which raised another question in his mind: "When the buffaloes shall have disappeared in his country, which will be within eight or ten years, I would ask, who is to supply [the Indian] with the necessaries of life then? and I would ask, further, (and leave the question to be answered ten years hence), when the skin shall have been stripped from the back of the last animal, who is to resist the ravages of 300,000 starving savages; and in their trains, 1,500,000 wolves, whom direst necessity will have driven from their desolate and game-less plains, to seek for the means of subsistence along our exposed frontier? God has everywhere supplied man in a State of Nature, with the necessaries of life, and before we destroy the game of his country, or teach him new desires, he has no wants that are not satisfied" (Letters and Notes, Letter No. 31). The end was not exactly as Catlin predicted, but he was nearly correct about the fate of the buffalo. Modern experts estimate that the buffalo herds in the 1830's were between forty and sixty million head; it is almost inconceivable that within fifty years, that number would be reduced to less than five thousand.

Designed by Malcolm Oastler as the third Jaguar chassis since their purchase of the Stewart Formula One Team. Following a dissapointing previous two seasons, 2002 proved even worse for the team.
The team admitted mistakes in the design stages, especially during wind tunnel testing, were the calculations were later proved to have been wrong.
After an Impessive fourth place for Irvine in the Australian GP, the cars lask of power and reliabilty began to show. Updates late in the season did improve things, culminating in a 3rd place for Irvine in the Italian GP at Monza.

If we do not try to reduce such problems, what consequences we may face then? I guess, human beings keep working and paying the bills, gaining a thoroughly tiring body everyday such as like we may keep feeling dizzy or tiring after visiting the hypermarkets, sleepy in the train during peak hours especially, suffocated or uneasy in highly polluted area before we can have little life and happiness left.
Of course different health condition may receive different response obviously. For those who are healthy enough one may not feel so. But is it worth if we keep endangering of life by persisting ourselves to accumulate certain uneasy molecules and viruses everyday and every second.
You and me only have one life, can we invest our life ignorantly as it is?
For those who do not alert enough about the hygienic requirements, they may tend to be trapped with certain disease easily based on " Nothing Comes From Nothing " principle.
Are these things all of us wanted in our life journey?

2. Communication or language problems???
3. Legacy matters? Intelligibility problems?

They keep challenging to educate and alert us, as the citizens on how and why there is a global climate change...and how we can live better and so on etc issues.
How it changes, why it changes, how the global environment affects us everyday. Isn't it good enough if we share further on how our universe and molecules look like further and how they affect us & our body instantly? We keep breathing uncountable gas into our body every second? May be thousand of viruses as well... Is our air clean and safe enough?
Similarly we also eat everyday ....... , do you think there isn't any problems at all?

Can we live well with obsolete kind of art, knowledge and technologies only??? When no choice, it still will somehow.

Can the truthful knowledge win people's heart steadily? I guess it will be accepted sooner or later. Our people become more and more literate; as such our people become more and more smart, they prefer to see realistic and truthful kind of information. They know well how to distinguish between the good one and the fake one. Normally good and genuine people will be very daring to prove their products with full facts. Otherwise, our audience will not spend time seeing our show or art at all. The main reason is they have limited time as well.
If they never support our presentation, can we expect them to buy our product in the near future then?
They can support sometimes just because they want to relax their mind, entertain their soul or hopefully they will spend their time helping them someday if possible. But in actual facts, they may either tease it or reject to accept so if they are able to see and access too many other options around the world.
What is our fate??? Does our God know? Can anyone help???

The goals of this project are to push the accuracy and scalability frontiers on the quantum mechanical calculation of realistic materials, and advance renewable energy technologies by studying surface reactions on transition metal oxides. Molecular reactions on these surfaces are pertinent for high-capacity energy storage, as well as photocatalytic carbon dioxide reduction,which has the potential to turn sunlight directly into fuel.
This image depicts the electronic structure surrounding a carbon monoxide molecule being adsorbed on a cuprous oxide (110) surface. Cuprous oxide is a promising photocatalyst for carbon dioxide reduction for solar fuel generation. This INCITE project aims to model this and other transition metal oxide surface reactions with unprecedented accuracy, by combining a new and efficient valence bond quantum chemistry method with highly scalable Quantum Monte Carlo.
The results of this research will help evaluate approaches used to perform first-principles calculations and inform the choice of future techniques. The knowledge gained from these advanced approaches will deepen understanding of surface reactions on key materials that could lead to more efficient energy storage and energy conversion, and reduce dependency on fossil fuels for transportation and other energy needs.

After reading ‘The Dragons of Eden’ in the ‘70s, having heard a pitch for it by Johnny Carson, I bought and studied one of astronomer Carl Sagan’s earlier books, ‘The Cosmic Connection’. His view of the then-known cosmos was shaped by observation, math, chemistry and astrophysics. To his scientific calculations and postulates, he added extrapolative speculation in a way that only a gifted teacher or likable raconteur can. At the time of his writing, the strong consensus of the community of esteemed astronomers was that the rest of the universe was uninhabitable. They thought that other stars, unlike our Sun, probably didn’t have planets orbiting around them.
Dr. Sagan did the math and came to the conclusion that the universe is probably teeming with life, much of it more advanced than Earthlings, but that we would not have any contact with them: the math, to him, made the odds astronomical to the point of statistical impossibility.
I heard last week that it has been proven that our own galaxy, The Milky Way, has about 2,300 Earth-like planets within a habitable distance from a Sun-like star.

A wind turbine is a rotating machine which converts the kinetic energy in wind into mechanical energy. If the mechanical energy is used directly by machinery, such as a pump or grinding stones, the machine is usually called a windmill. If the mechanical energy is then converted to electricity, the machine is called a wind generator, wind turbine, wind power unit (WPU), wind energy converter (WEC), or aerogenerator
Wind machines were used in Persia as early as 200 B.C. This type of machine was introduced into the Roman Empire by 250 A.D. However, the first practical windmills were built in Sistan, Iran, from the 7th century. These were vertical axle windmills, which had long vertical driveshafts with rectangle shaped blades. Made of six to twelve sails covered in reed matting or cloth material, these windmills were used to grind corn and draw up water, and were used in the gristmilling and sugarcane industries.
By the 14th century, Dutch windmills were in use to drain areas of the Rhine River delta. In Denmark by 1900 there were about 2500 windmills for mechanical loads such as pumps and mills, producing an estimated combined peak power of about 30 MW. The first known electricity generating windmill operated was a battery charging machine installed in 1887 by James Blyth in Scotland, UK[citation needed]. The first windmill for electricity production in the United States was built in Cleveland, Ohio by Charles F Brush in 1888, and in 1908 there were 72 wind-driven electric generators from 5 kW to 25 kW. The largest machines were on 24 m (79 ft) towers with four-bladed 23 m (75 ft) diameter rotors. Around the time of World War I, American windmill makers were producing 100,000 farm windmills each year, most for water-pumping. By the 1930s windmills for electricity were common on farms, mostly in the United States where distribution systems had not yet been installed. In this period, high-tensile steel was cheap, and windmills were placed atop prefabricated open steel lattice towers.
A forerunner of modern horizontal-axis wind generators was in service at Yalta, USSR in 1931. This was a 100 kW generator on a 30 m (100 ft) tower, connected to the local 6.3 kV distribution system. It was reported to have an annual capacity factor of 32 per cent, not much different from current wind machines.
The first utility grid-connected wind turbine operated in the UK was built by the John Brown Company in 1954 in the Orkney Islands. It had an 18 meter diameter, three-bladed rotor and a rated output of 100 kW.
Wind turbines require locations with constantly high wind speeds. With a wind resource assessment it is possible to estimate the amount of energy the wind turbine will produce.
A yardstick frequently used to determine good locations is referred to as Wind Power Density (WPD.) It is a calculation relating to the effective force of the wind at a particular location, frequently expressed in terms of the elevation above ground level over a period of time. It takes into account wind velocity and mass. Color coded maps are prepared for a particular area described, for example, as "Mean Annual Power Density at 50 Meters." The results of the above calculation are included in an index developed by the National Renewable Energy Lab and referred to as "NREL CLASS."
