opening night. when i first moved to windsor i hated this ugly eyesore of a building, but it's begun to grow on me, which means i may be turning into a true windsorite. peter and i have only been inside once, at 3 in the morning with phil and lisa while walking home drunk from downtown, and only then because phil was hungry and i had to pee. it was eerily empty and quiet inside at 3 in the morning, until we turned a corner into a giant room where row upon row of glassy-eyed old ladies robotically pushed the buttons that slowly sucked out all of their savings. peter did some quick mental calculations to figure out how much money a person could lose in one minute of button-pushing on the slot machines, and we beat a frightened retreat, never to return.
it'll be interesting to see if the place continues to bring in the calibre of performers they've got lined up for the first few months. not that much of the current lineup is to my taste, exactly (billy joel played last night for the grand opening) but still. not a lot of big names come to our town.
peter and i both found ourselves wishing that ugly brown-on-brown apartment building had been torn down to make room for the casino expansion (the tower on the left is the old casino windsor tower, and the one on the right is new). yeah, the casino is butt-ugly but it's an ugly with character. that apartment building on the right, however, is totally awesome.
I believe this Kmart opened sometime in the 80's but I am not sure. It is also my local Kmart, located across the street from The Greene. The plaza it calls home is known as Greene Crossing. It is one of the many Kmarts with an active Little Caesars Pizza Station and a Garden Shop and, of course, a Pharmacy.
A lot of my visits there lately have been in the evenings, so don't be surprised to see photos of a dark Little Caesars. :)

Gaius Julius Caesar, Roman general, politician, dictator, (100 BC - 44 BC)
He was among many other things the lover of queen Kleopatra of Egypt and father of her son Caesarion. Caesarion was later murdered on the order of the emperor Augustus to prevent any intervention in Rome on his behalf.

The card from from a lass who enjoys the mountains - she did a bivouac on the summit a couple of days before our visit www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7A3ijY1B30
But the intended purpose of the "house" is unclear - nothing lifted, so my first idea of a summit book holder did not fit. I've found other pictures of it, but no explanation.

In 1962, Jay Sarno, a cabana motel owner, used US$35 million that had been lent to him by the Teamsters Central States Pension Fund to begin plans for a hotel on land owned by Kirk Kerkorian. Sarno would later act as designer of the hotel he planned to construct.
Building of the 14-story Caesars Palace hotel began in 1962. That first tower would have 680 rooms on the 34 acre (138,000 m2) site.
Sarno struggled to decide on a name for the hotel. He finally decided to call it Caesars Palace because he thought that the name Caesar would evoke thoughts of royalty because of Roman general Julius Caesar.
Sarno contracted many companies to build the hotel, from the Roman landscapes it presents, to the water fountains that have been stages of various events and the hotel's swimming pools.
The show is closed, but still interesting. The bare electronics of the figures are visible as they are worked on.
Caesar, Gaius Julius (100-44 BC)
Templum Divi Iuli sits on the site of the funeral pyre of Julius Caesar. Augustus had the structure built after the battle of Actium.
Today one sees several portions of the foundation. It is thought that the altar on which Caesar's body had been cremated was in the center of a platform in the temple.
"Men at some time are masters of their fates: The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves, that we are underlings". - (Julius Caesar Act I, Scene II).
"Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more". Julius Caesar (Act III, Scene II).
"Beware the ides of March". - (Julius Caesar Act I, Scene II).
"This was the noblest Roman of them all". - (Julius Caesar Act V, Sc. V).
