When wandering through the greenhouse, I almost ran into this cactus because I was busy looking at some strange and furry creation.
This amazing cactus flower was hiding underneath this other interesting tree just out of shot. Such a treat to see a cactus in bloom.

I was delighted to see a large clump of cactus in bloom in the front yard garden at Pam's Pelican B & B on Ocracoke Island, North Carolina, USA. I visited June 6-10, 2013. I'm not accustomed to seeing cactus in bloom, outside of greenhouses. It's a treat to see them, here in North Carolina!
We were there just as the desert flowers were beginning to bloom. I expect that a week to ten days later the desert floor would have been a multitude of colours other than dry and dusty.

Last night I came upon this cactus in bloom at my parents place. The large flower has many lines, textures, colors. I don't believe the flower stays in bloom for long. I found it very interesting too photograph.
