A friend asked me to take some shots of the cactus that was actually flowering outside the Mexican restaurant, she said it only happens once a year or so.

The cactus bloom for only a few days each year. This was taken in Kin Coulee, Medicine Hat, Alberta.
My 4 year-old Epi (Epiphyllum or Orchid Cactus) in bloom for the first time. Unfortunately this giant (compare with my arm) fragnant flower stays open only for one night.

We hiked in the desert today and saw the beauty of the beavertail cactus in bloom...
It was as if Martha Stewart had been all over putting pink tissue paper flowers on the catcus!

This photo was taken a couple of miles from the Ranch, I have one in my font yard. They actually bloom earlier than every 100 years, but they only bloom once, then die, Note the leaves around the base, all drooping and dead.
When I run out of vistas or they are all the same I look down at foot level. and beauty abounds.

Another shot taken at the greenhouses at Lyman Conservatory, Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, USA, on March 26, 2011. Open 7 days a week--free admission. There were many cactus in bloom, the day we visited.
Taken along the cliff side trail leading up to the cliff side dwelling and Indian ruins on top of the mesa at Puye, New Mexico.
