The new spring sunlight envelopes flowering cactus on the forest floor above Longmont, Colorado's Buttonrock preserve. It's time for day dreaming of laying in the grass and letting the returning sunlight wash over you. Perhaps nodding off a few times can rinse the spirit clean of cares. It's time to renergize for the work and play that waits.
Dare I say that spring may yet quit hitting the snooze button in the Rockies? In some ways it has been a cruel winter but seems better when I see what the storms do when they reform and hammer the midwest and the east. The weather types say it may snow tomorrow. It must be spring.

This Echinopsis werdermannii cactus is some 20 years old and just sprout two wonderfull flowers. It's a rare sight as these flowers are open for only 24 hours.
This is the very first time that I've ever seen a desert cactus in bloom since I moved here nearly 9 years ago. Absolutely amazing.

Lots of cactus in bloom around Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West. The Palo Verde is the AZ state tree.
Devil's Garden features many unusual natural rock formation in a very small area. Devil's Garden is in Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument which is one of our newest National Monuments. The park is massive. All the road are primative and many require four-wheel drive. There were huge areas of cactus in bloom and fields of flowers.
