This ones for all those that don't know what a Christmas cactus is... and that it does bloom flowers yo.
Originally hailing from Mexico (Hidalgo, Oaxaca and Puebla), Globe or Pincushion cacti are a favorite succulent to be grown by gardeners.
Be sure to plant the cactus into a porous fast draining soil (with small pebbles) and give the cylindrical plant enough direct or indirect sunshine. To put them into a North facing window will not give them enough exposure of sunlight. If fertilizing use one rich in potassium and phosphorus, but low in nitrogen, as with almost all cacti. Repot every 2 to 3 years and enjoy their May, April bloom.
They got their name from Latin mammilla, "nipple", referring to the tubercles that make the distinctive features of the genus.

We do not normally think of flowers when thinking of cactus, but they do bloom in the spring - and their flowers are quite beautiful.
Nothing like a bit of shocking pink flowers on the Rat Tail Cactus in May to liven up a foggy day. I've got this hung in a hanging basket right outside my breakfast nook window, where I see it first thing every morning.
I haven't ever seen so much cactus in bloom as this weekend at the Botanical Gardens in Naples. Perfect for this week's challenge assemblage of a lady.
Rhipsalis sp. There are many Rhipsalis species of cactus, I have discovered. Perhaps someone viewing this photo can tell me which one this is. The blooms are yellow, and the individual joints of this cactus are rounded, not flat, and they are shorter than some are shown when I google this genus. They are also smooth, fleshy and not hairy, and spineless.
I forgot to tell Brenda our cactus are blooming! :-)
