Reattaching the neighbor's cable. Still no power yet.
UPDATE: Finally got power restored 7 days after it went out.
The King Edward Hotel in Toronto is undergoing some big renovations. This day a pile of carboard cable spools had been left out the back and made a nice subject.
There's two cable cars on one track connected together by a cable that runs from one car, to the top of the mountain, then back to the other car. As one car goes down, the weight pulls the other car up. Half way up the mountain, the track splits into two for about 200 feet. The two cars pass each other at that point. There must be little to no electricity usage...clever.
The great thing about San Francisco is that there's a million things to do for free around the city. This is one of them - an interesting little building near Chinatown, which houses old cable cars and displays the history of their presence in the city.
Visitors can see how the cars are made, how they work and buy little trinkets related to transportation and the city.
Not a bad pit stop for a morning walk.
