This is a cable sweater I crocheted using a lovely blue fingering weight yarn from elann.

100% wool.

This was my first attempt at crocheting a sweater, and I'm very happy with how it turned out.

The cabling is NOT an applique, and it is not done (as crocheted cabling usually is) by using dc stitches on the front of the work.

After zillions of swatches, I finally figured out how to work a cable in crochet the same way a cable is worked in knitting: by pinching or puckering the work and making it fold onto itself.

The stitches that got pinched into cables were worked in shallow crochet stitch (sometimes called faux knit) and the background is worked in crossover stitch - I like how crossover stitch create a sort of grid of squares.

The body is work circularly starting at the bottom hem to the collar using steeks that were later cut open for the armholes. The arms were then worked circularly from the armhole to the cuff.

Original pattern by me!

Completed in ...I think 2001/2002.

Twisted cable... not true cable but it's lookin' good. Only had to redo 3 times to make sure it was small enough for a head.
