Elevator button at Forest Glen Metro (Silver Spring, Md.)

Since riders are heading down to the subway platform, logically they look for the lower button.

But the lower button is not the "down" command. Instead, it activates the station's emergency alarm.

Recently, the station has put little white arrows indicating the proper "down" button.

Why is there a push button over the outdoor waiting bench to the left of the front doors at Target? I'm guessing it's the reset button in case you actually do hit the target on the wall overhead.

Thank you Kittyzilla for the adorable flannel button on the right. It is a wonderful new friend for my soapsicle pinback, designed by Pancake Meow!

To see Kittyzilla's whole grouping of these super sweet pins, check out this photo: www.flickr.com/photos/kittyzilla/2215712048/. They are all great (she even sent me the one with the ice cream cone!).

(sorry for the scanned image - my hubby borrowed the camera for a camping trip. I'm going through serious camera withdrawl!!)

When I joined the army in 1971, I was issued with a brass button stick manufactured in 1955 and still stamped WD - War Department which preceded the MOD. It was designed to slide under buttons on the uniform so they could be polished without transferring Brasso to the cloth. By my enlistment time, No2 Dress uniforms were fitted with "Staybrite" buttons which did not require polishing. It was still useful for polishing the brass fittings on our blancoed 37 Pattern webbing, especially the buckles on the ankle gaiters. By the time I left the army in 2006, there was a generation of soldiers who did not know what this curious object was. This one belonged to my father and, being in plastic, may well have been a wartime economy pattern. It is plain on the reverse.

I made this card for Lisa Clarke's Big Button Challenge to showcase all of the different ways a hand-made button can be used.

I made the button she sent me into a big button bloom. The background DP is stamped three times with the DesignBlock: Bold Flourish and a sentiment form Anytime Messages.

I hand-cut the flower petals from Tim Holtz Swirl grungeboard and sprayed them with Ranger Adirondack Raisin ColorWash and Oriental Poppy Glimmer Mists for the golden shimmer. I finished with some fuzzy fiber through the button holes.

Recently a new pedestrian crossing was set up on the western side of the Greenhill / King William Road intersection next to the tram track.

Thought I had better get a photo of a brand new pedestrian button before it gets trashed...

This is the button array on the right handlebar of my 1966 Sears Gold Seal Vespa. This is one of only a very few scooters sold by Sears, but NOT called Allstate. Just Sears.

But I don't know how all of these buttons work. It won't start, but it could be because one of these buttons is in the wrong position. The top button is a 3-position rocker, the left button is an off-on switch, but no clue as to which is which. The bottom button in for on, and out for off, as is the one on the extreme right. Any clues will be appreciated. This is a zippy little bike with 4 speeds and 125 cc's, and I really need to be riding it.

here's what i sent to georgiapeachez -

a button bracelet - two anttique crochet doilies - a small jar of vintage buttons - a handful of local shells - a vintage button card and some chocolate.

I will be starting a button a day project where I will post one button from my extensive chiuldhood collection per day until I've recorded them all on Flickr. If there's a story to be told, I'll be posting it on one of my blogs, beginning with www.RealHomeSense.com on 10/02/10.

I used a shallow recycled bottlecap as the base for this pincushion -- no more pins stabbing the wrist! I also used scrap fabrics (mostly reclaimed) for the cuff.

Created with fd's Flickr Toys.
