It's a type of closure knot for button/loop closures. The knot itself is not particularly difficult, but getting it to tighten down nice and round is really a pain.
This is my first contribution to the "Faces in Places" phenomenon. It is a very smiley button that my mother discovered.

We just gave the SeaDek Super Air Nautique 230 a facelift in preparation for putting her on the market. This is a great example of the kind of change that can be achieved with SeaDek. Looks like an entirely different boat when compare to the blue over gray kit it is replacing.

"How are they linked?" you may ask. The button is attached to a pillow which my mother made in the week preceding Phoebe's birth. My mother arrived from the US post-due date in the hopes of providing maximum help to me. Unfortunately, little Phoebe decided to stay cozy and warm for an extra 12 days. Despite the wait, I think I got the best of the bargain as not only did my mother make this pillow, but she also finished curtains for my bedroom. I think of her every time I put the pillow on my bed.

This metal button with the hammered design is especially made by hand. This is a definite enhancement in look of any garment.
~ 700 buttons for a catalog. Had to reshoot the white ones with an underlight rather than just on white paper. Each button shot individually with a 90mm macro lens, this is a comp contact sheet of each shot.
Lighting info:
SB-28 either side of each button, into a funkyfoam bouncecard at 1/32 power, which was resting on opaque white plastic sheet with a SB-800 below on 1/128 power in SU-4 mode.
This time I remebered to turn off the Fuji S5's extended DR mode, saving me a lot of post-process time :)

A Purple Button picture frame with some really cool iridescent buttons. This frame is for a 4"x6" photo.
I hit the [Prt Sc]-button to capture this image off my screen (hence the capture date), then started playing with it, using a channels select on the highlights to do selected curves, and then decided to do something creative on the coat. I ran it through the Photoshop water color texture filter to give it that duffle look.

Vintage bridle button that was found along others in an old dairy barn near Weatherford, OK. The front displays the letter ‘E’ in a shimmering gold against a black background. The back shows nice wear from its use and has a vertical bar for attaching the button. There is a nice cracking through the paint on the front of the button. The paint at the top left corner of the ‘E’ has begun to raise slightly and appears darker than the rest of the letter (see pics). Button is approximately 1 ¾ inches.
