When driving to Schiphol on Easter Monday we drove past a field of tulips, tied in well with the bunch of tulips I bought for the Easter weekend. The end result does look like a cliché Dutch postcard !
Thousands of tulipsbulbs are planting in a bulbfield in "Vogelenzang" , near Haarlem, The netherlands.
The sign reads : "I went to see Major General Harrison, hung drawn and quartered. He was looking as cheerful as any man would in that condition.
~ Samuel Pepys, 13 October 1660."
When Spring is in the air Holland's countryside turns into a kaleidoscope of colours. From mid-March to mid-May are the best times to go and see the flower parks and the colourful bulb fields.
Tulips.
I am absolutely not the first one to make this kind of picture, but I did not see it with flash so far.

This was a lovely narrow deck along the davits of the lifeboats. No teak deck planks here, but blue paint.
as spring seems to be making an appearance at last, I thought I'd celebrate with this picture of tulips soaking up the spring sunshine in the Keukenhof gardens...

... from my cabin window! These windows were coated with a reflective layer which made it easy to look out, but almost impossible during daylight hours to look in.
Mosaic in the café of the Beurs van Berlage. Taken in less than ideal circumstances, but I am glad I caught this glimpse! Not sure whether it is the biblical scene -- the woman looks quite Indian...

The northeast polder (NOP), is an example of modern large-scale polder with rational allotment. The construction of the polder was part of the Zuiderzee Works (Lely plan), in 1942 the polder was dry. Most of the building, farmhouses and villages, is post-war.

A fine building, itself worth the visit. A bit of a backwater nowadays perhaps -- but a great way to start a cruise. Everyone was very efficient and very welcoming, and all problems were quickly solved for the passengers.
