Built circa 1888-1889, this Queen Anne-style building was constructed to house Patrick Sullivan’s Saloon, which was one of the first and only establishments in its time that served people of all races, as well as both men and women. The saloon was closed in 1907, when a referendum led to all Saloon establishments being outlawed in the city, with the building subsequently becoming a cafe and ice cream parlor run by the Armetta family. In 1988, the building was rehabilitated and reopened as a restaurant. The building features a red brick exterior, a footprint with an acute angle at the corner of Central Street and Jackson Avenue, a shed roof with a parapet, gables and a corner turret with an acorn-shaped copper roof, arched one-over-one windows at the attic, rusticated stone trim, one-over-one windows on the second floor, brick corbeling, brick pilasters, oxeye windows on the first floor of the Jackson Avenue facade, a storefront at the corner of Jackson Avenue and Central Street with cast iron pilasters, a cast iron cornice, decorative paneled spandrels, and decorative transoms, and a cornice at the top of the roof parapet. The building is a contributing structure in the Jackson Avenue Warehouse District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, and the Southern Terminal and Warehouse Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

"Newark (/ˈnjuːərk/ NEW-ərk, locally [nʊəɹk]) is the most populous city in the U.S. state of New Jersey and the seat of Essex County and part of the New York metropolitan area. The city had a population of 311,549 as of the 2020 United States census, making it the nation's 62nd-most populous municipality, after being ranked 73rd in the nation in 2010. It is one of the nation's major air, shipping, and rail hubs.
Settled in 1666 by Puritans from New Haven Colony, Newark is one of the oldest cities in the United States. Its location at the mouth of the Passaic River (where it flows into Newark Bay) has made the city's waterfront an integral part of the Port of New York and New Jersey. Today, Port Newark–Elizabeth is the primary container shipping terminal of the busiest seaport on the U.S. East Coast. Newark Liberty International Airport was the first municipal commercial airport in the United States, and today is one of its busiest.
Several companies have their headquarters in Newark, including Prudential, PSEG, Panasonic Corporation of North America, Audible.com, IDT Corporation, Manischewitz and AeroFarms.
A number of higher education institutions are also in the city, including the Newark campus of Rutgers University (which includes law and medical schools and the Rutgers Institute of Jazz Studies); University Hospital (formerly the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey which included the schools of medicine and dentistry now under Rutgers University); the New Jersey Institute of Technology; and Seton Hall University's law school. The United States District Court for the District of New Jersey is also located in the city.
Local cultural venues include the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Newark Symphony Hall, the Prudential Center, The Newark Museum of Art, and the New Jersey Historical Society.
Newark is divided into five political wards (East, West, South, North and Central) and contains neighborhoods ranging in character from bustling urban districts to quiet suburban enclaves.[ Newark's Branch Brook Park is the oldest county park in the United States and is home to the nation's largest collection of cherry blossom trees, numbering over 5,000." - info from Wikipedia.
The fall of 2022 I did my 3rd major cycling tour. I began my adventure in Montreal, Canada and finished in Savannah, GA. This tour took me through the oldest parts of Quebec and the 13 original US states. During this adventure I cycled 7,126 km over the course of 2.5 months and took more than 68,000 photos. As with my previous tours, a major focus was to photograph historic architecture.

Originally opened in 1921, the 500-seat Seminole three-story building on Krome Avenue was built for Henry Booker, Sr. and James Washington English for movies and live entertainment. The theater was heavily damaged in a 1940 fire, leaving little more than a blackened shell.
Prolific theater architect Roy A. Benjamin was hired to rebuild the Seminole, which he designed in Streamline Moderne style. The cost of the movie theater's reconstruction was around $50,000. It reopened in the fall of 1940. In addition to movies, the Seminole continued to host live entertainment, as well as beauty contests and cooking demonstrations. In the early 1970s, the Seminole has renamed the Premier Theatre and began to show Spanish-language movies. It closed in 1979 due to declining attendance.
For years, the theater sat vacantly and fell into disrepair. In 1992, when Hurricane Andrew hit the Homestead area, the Seminole was not spared, and though its walls stood, the roof was torn off and the theater's interior suffered serious damage. In 1993, the Seminole Theater's owners donated the battered theater to the city, which designed it a local historic site two years later. The building is one of the few remaining examples of Art Moderne/Art Deco style theatres in all of Miami-Dade County.
The Seminole Theater Group was organized in 1997 with the intention of restoring the theater as a performing arts venue serving the Homestead and Dade County region. It is expected to cost about $4.2 million to bring the old Seminole back to life. The Seminole Theatre was reopened on October 28, 2015.
William B Medellin Architect P.A. as the historic preservation consultant for the project was responsible for the restoration of the historic facades, including the re-painting of the exterior walls to match the original historic colors; re-installation of missing historic elements such as the historic “Starburst” fretwork over the transom entrance doors and the historic travertine wainscot using historic salvaged travertine found at the Theater’s storage room. The interior lobby stairs and railings were the only original historic interior elements remaining in the building.

The Thomas County Historic Courthouse is a government building built in 1858 and located on North Broad Street in Thomasville, Georgia, the seat of Thomas County. It was designed by architect John Wind.
It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 22, 1970.
It is also a contributing building in the NRHP-listed Thomasville Commercial Historic District.
Thomas County was created in 1825 from portions of Decatur and Irwin counties. Georgia's 63rd county, and its county seat, Thomasville, were named for a hero of the War of 1812, General Jett Thomas. In addition to his military career, General Thomas built the first university building in Athens.
The county has seven municipalities, the largest is Thomasville. Others include Barwick, Boston, Coolidge, Meigs, Ochlocknee, and Pavo. Ochlocknee is named for the river flowing through Thomas County. Meigs was named for several Meigs families who came from Marlboro County, South Carolina. Pavo is Latin for Peacock, which was the name of the first postmaster in the area.
Thomasville was a popular, turn-of-the-century, winter resort for wealthy northern families. Non-residents still maintain many large estates and hunting preserves. Many of these estates are listed on the National Register of Historic Places including the Susina Plantation Inn and the Lapham-Patterson House. The latter is a large, Victorian house, that was built by a survivor of the great fire of Chicago. He designed the house with 45 doors, 26 of which were exterior. Every room had its own fire extinguisher.
Thomasville is known for its annual Rose Festival; for the "Big Oak," which has a limb spread of 175 feet; and for the McKinley Memorial Tree planted in 1896 as a salute to candidate William McKinley, who became the 25th President of the United States.
Bailey White, a National Public Radio essayist and author of Mama Makes Up Her Mind, is from Thomas County.
Limestone sinks are common in this section which was once part of the ocean floor. A great limestone aquifer in subterranean South Georgia offers a nearly limitless fresh water supply.

Built in 1962, this modern building was designed by George McLaughlin to house the congregation of St. Augustine Catholic Church, which is the successor to two earlier churches, a small chapel that was built in 1854 and a church built in 1901 and expanded in 1910 and 1925. The church features a distinctive A-frame design with a steep copper front gable roof sloping to low eaves on the sides, steep gables on the sides featuring stained glass windows and decorative circular masonry openings at street level, a large stained glass curtain wall on the front facade, a front courtyard behind a retail building on Kalakaua Avenue, decorative copper doors with pointed profiles, a rear modernist rectory with a front gable roof, wooden vertical baffles, and a masonry base, and a landscaped courtyard between the rectory and the rear of the church. The church is one of many modernist buildings built between the 1950s and 1980s that define the Waikiki neighborhood, transforming it from a quiet oceanside district into a bustling international tourist destination.

Built in 1928, this Renaissance Revival-style building is the former Cincinnati and Suburban Bell Telephone Company Exchange, designed by Harry Hake and built to serve the Westwood and Cheviot areas during a rapid period of growth in this section of Cincinnati. The buff brick building features a red tile hipped roof, ornate terra cotta trim, decorative red brick accents, gargoyles with telephones, decorative pilasters, arched windows on the first floor, and a limestone base. In the late 20th Century, a windowless building was constructed to the rear to house more modern telephone switching equipment, and the old building slowly fell into disuse, eventually becoming a book repository for the Cincinnati Public Library. The building is a contributing structure in the Westwood Town Center Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. The building was renovated between 2017 and 2018 to become home to the Madcap Education Center, part of the Cincinnati Landmark Productions, and houses a 130-seat theater for Madcap, as well as space for performing arts classes and distance education programs.
