Stabled off juice today and the light through the shed roof was quite something. This doesn't quite do it justice.

The 11-story glass and steel building in downtown Seattle, Washington was opened to the public on Sunday, May 23, 2004. The building was designed by the dutch architect Rem Koolhaas and has a unique, striking appearance, consisting of several discrete "floating platforms" seemingly wrapped in a large steel net around glass skin.

Kazimierz was founded in the 14th century by King Casimir the Great, initially as a separate city. The area became a major center for Jewish life, attracting Jewish communities from Bohemia and other regions. For centuries, Kazimierz was a place where Jewish and Polish cultures coexisted and intermingled. During World War II, the Jewish population of Kazimierz was forcibly relocated to the Krakow ghetto in Podgórze by the German occupying forces. Today, Kazimierz is a major tourist attraction and cultural hub, with remnants of its Jewish history still visible.

The Shambles Market is a daily market held in the city centre of York, England. It was created in the 1950s after the clearance of a large area next to the Shambles, when large sections of the Shambles were demolished, including the entire street known as Little Shambles. Until 1955 the city's main markets were in Parliament Street and St Sampson's Square. That year, the market in St Sampson's Square was closed, and the one in Parliament Street was reduced to opening only on Saturdays. The displaced market stalls were offered space in a newly cleared area between Newgate, Jubbergate and The Shambles. Today, the demolition of the historic buildings that originally stood in the place of the market is seen as insensitive, since a great deal of historic fabric was destroyed.

New Brighton lighthouse tower construction began in 1827 by Tomkinson & Company using blocks of interlocking Anglesey granite using dovetail joints and marble dowels. It was designed to use many of the same construction techniques used in the building of John Smeaton's Eddystone Lighthouse 70 years earlier.

The original idea of the Institut des Cultures d’Islam (ICI) began in 2005 and it came to be in 2006 with the opening of the original centre on rue Léon. Located in the heart of the “Goutte d’Or” neighbourhood, the aim of the Institut des Cultures d’Islam is to provide a location in Paris that is dedicated to the creation and spread of contemporary culture linked to the Muslim world.

Trendy, creative Kazimierz is Krakow’s historic Jewish quarter, now a jumble of indie galleries, quirky shops, vintage clothing stores and bars, Hope I've portrayed it this way.

Some of the most magnificent castles of Wales are reminders of a turbulent time, when English kings and Welsh princes vied for power In 1276–77 and 1282–83, King Edward I led two military campaigns in Wales to defeat the Welsh princes and bring Wales under English rule. To do this, between 1276 and 1295 many castles were built or repaired.

Beaumaris, Caernarfon, Conwy and Harlech were the finest castles built by King Edward I in Wales. At Caernarfon and Conwy, new towns were built within massive walls at the same time as the castles. All were begun and substantially completed between 1283 and 1330.

The result, both individually and collectively, is the finest surviving example of late thirteenth-century military architecture in Europe. Together, these four great castles and two sets of town walls were inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1986 as the Castles and Town Walls of King Edward in Gwynedd World Heritage Site.

Baroque architecture in Portugal enjoys a very special situation and a different timeline from the rest of Europe. It is conditioned by several political, artistic and economic factors, that originate several phases, and different kinds of outside influences, resulting in a unique blend, often misunderstood by those looking for Italian art, but with specific forms and character. It starts in a complicated moment, with the financial effort of the kingdom channelled to the Portuguese Restoration War, after 60 years of Iberian Union. Another key factor is the existence of the Jesuitical architecture, also called "plane style". The buildings are single-room basilicas, deep main chapel, lateral chapels (with small doors for communication), without interior and exterior decoration, very simple portal and windows. It is a very practical building, allowing it to be built throughout the empire with minor adjustments, and prepared to be decorated later or when economic resources are available. Actually the first Portuguese Baroque does not lack in building because “plain style” is easy to be transformed, by means of decoration turning empty areas in pompous baroque scenarios. The same could be applied to the exterior. Subsequently, it’s easy to adapt the building to the taste of the time and place.
