This Dragonfly is the first I have managed to photograph. She was absolutley beautifull, I believe it is a female Common Darter Sympetrum striolatum.
Many thanks to Eddie (a.k.a Wildlife On The Go The Bugman) who helped me correctly identify her as a female Black-tailed Skimmer ~ Orthetrum cancellatum. .

Children and families learned about all types of bugs with The Bugman at the Library. Children also got to hold live, harmless bugs. The program was sponsored by the Friends of the Scranton Public Library.

A few more of these tiddlers, all of these were not visible to the naked eye, there is something everso rewarding about photographing things that cannot ordinarily be seen. In my last post I had these identified as Sminthurides aquaticus, I have since been advised that these are more likely to be Sminthurides malmgreni, this is due to the dorsal and lateral pigmentation. In the comments I have placed a few more size comparisons, these were all taken with the MP-E at x5 magnification on x2 sets of extension tubes (136mm).
I'm really hoping to get out with the camera tomorrow, it has been very cold here over the past few days, so I'm going out tomorrow no matter what. I hope every one has an excellent weekend :o)
