A few more of these tiddlers, all of these were not visible to the naked eye, there is something everso rewarding about photographing things that cannot ordinarily be seen. In my last post I had these identified as Sminthurides aquaticus, I have since been advised that these are more likely to be Sminthurides malmgreni, this is due to the dorsal and lateral pigmentation. In the comments I have placed a few more size comparisons, these were all taken with the MP-E at x5 magnification on x2 sets of extension tubes (136mm).
I'm really hoping to get out with the camera tomorrow, it has been very cold here over the past few days, so I'm going out tomorrow no matter what. I hope every one has an excellent weekend :o)

According to the Bugman at www.whatsthatbug.com, this is a broad necked root borer, female. The thing is HUGE! The long spike at the rear is an ovipositor, which the female uses to deposit eggs.
