Almost 4,000 miles and SEVERAL bugbites later... dipping our toes in our new pond. Of course, there is algae at my feet....my new Fucus
I fell asleep out back sunning myself and must have gotten stung or bitten on the foot by something...it's swollen and painful to walk
We are so proud of the kids. They both volunteered as Apprentice Counselors, which are role models and aid the counselors in all aspects of camp, each logging in over 300 hours. Instead of wasting away the summer watching tv or playing video games, they worked outside with kids from all different backgrounds, enduring countless bugbites, and working through the heat and rain. They improved their skills in leadership, teamwork, and working with younger children. This is Zoe's second summer, and John's first - he really didn't want to do it at first, but I think he did enjoy himself.
It was an awefully boring day at work and because of the weather I decided to take the afternoon off for some shooting. I visited my friends the grebes once more and I was glad to see that the remaining chick was still around.
It was a good decision to go shooting, when I arrived at the spot it was slightly overcast. Mother nature provided me with her natural softbox. And, lady fortune smiled upon me as the grebes were in a place where I had acces to nice covered seat on grass with 2 openings in the reed. A spot fishermen would love.
I loved it too because I was able to get down on my belly for this lowlevel POV. It took me some bugbites, a stiff neck and a muddy camera but I had a hell of a time and some very nice shots :)
Offcourse, for maximum detail please view in Lightbox.
I think this about all of the bites I received within the first couple of hours of sleep my first night in Bucharest. I soon closed the window.

I thought this was a misquito bite, but now i'm not sure. because the red area is actually pretty swollen. and i haven't scratched it in over 48 hours.
we grow 'em big in Texas!
This Woodlouse spider would bit the paperclip, and then wouldn't let go for a few seconds, even when being lifted into the air. It would bite down and then chew 5-3 times before it let go. Now imagine if that was your finger.
Click the photo below for some cool shots of it pissed off:
There was some weird insect at my uncle's place that bit up my arms and feet. They were awful and huge and itchy. Ech.
June 2, 2011;
This is the back of my leg.
I discovered today that I have my first bug bite, and not just my first one... my first seven.
This is the only thing that I hate about summer, I am always covered in bug bites that are supper itchy!
D:
sooc.
We played a game of airsoft earlier in the day and this we from all of the bugs that were biting that day.
I got a bug bite on my left eye and it got pretty swollen. It was kind of hilarious and kind of scary at the same time! It was michelle and I's first time hanging out and it made the night even funnier!
New England's favorite! This felt version brings back memories of nights on the beach with delicious food...
Betsy took this photo after we put on our crampons for the hike. You can see the marks caused by my legs being attacked by the sandflies the day before.
Really? Another two flat tires for Aaron? Is this kid carrying the anti-rabbit's foot? After a late start out of Talladega, we were waylaid again by a friendly bike shop owner at Fun Wheels in Oxford, AL. After an hour and a half, Jimmy sent us off with spare bike tubes and a few other needed supplies. I was antsy to get on the road, with many miles still to bike to Adam's home east of Atlanta before dark tomorrow.
We finally made it to the beautifully paved and blissfully shaded Chief Ladiga trail, logging a solid 56 miles today before pitching our tents in the beautiful -- but after nightfall, spookily secluded -- Chief Ladiga Campground. It was still under construction and there were no showers. So while Aaron got the tents set up and rummaged around the food bags for dinner ingredients, I tried not to think about water moccasins and took a bath in the river. I felt like a regular Pioneer. (Real pioneers probably didn't complain about bugbites as much as I do, though.)

It is officially A MILLION degrees outside. hot hot hot
I FIIINNNAAAAAALLLYYYYY got some money for film, sent the piling rolls to the photo hut to get it developed and got two more rolls which again left me broke. I can't wait to get them back cause I learned a new trick to "creating" leaks and I'm hoping I got that right. We'll see we'll see.
I randomly felt the need to go out for a photo walk since I haven't really been going anywhere lately. I took all three of my cameras. The Nikon N90[F90] is a toughie. I would lie around the grass more often if it didn't give me a massive load of bugbites :(
And. What.
There was an octopus in my dream.
:P
They’re itchy, they’re scratchy, and they’re not going away. We take a look at why we all itch and explain how to soothe the pain of four common irritants from bites to bugs to plants.
