Newly assigned Soldiers from the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) are awarded the Buff Strap after successful completion of the Regimental Orientation Program (ROP) in a ROP Graduation Ceremony on May 23, 2016 adjacent to Summerall Field in Joint Base Myer Henderson Hall, Va. The Buff Strap was approved for wear by The Old Guard in 1922. The Buff Strap is a black strap with a “buff” or rawhide strap interwoven to symbolize the straps of knapsacks worn by Infantryman in the 1790’s. (U.S. Army Photos by Spc. Brandon Dyer)
I will be handing these out for free at the Out of Order Exhibit tomorrow night! Check out the fb invite if you're interested in checking it out.
