Sweden

Last Sunday we went down to Castellow Hammock Park searching for the Mango.

We were there from 7:30 till noon we did not see him one person that came over from Naples claimed to have seen him no photos. We did get a lot of looks at the two Buff Bellied Hummingbirds.

I shot this it is the only shot of him moving.

Rare sighting of a stunning buff-breasted sandpiper on the southern Washington coast!

These incredible shorebirds migrate thousands of miles from grasslands in Argentina or Uruguay up to the dry tundra of the Alaskan and Canadian Arctic.

Most buff-breasted sandpipers migrate back and forth through the Great Plains – states like Kansas, Nebraska and Texas – but there are recorded sightings on the Oregon and Washington coasts, too.

Buff-breasted sandpipers seen along the Pacific Flyway are typically juveniles, according to Richard Lanctot, a shorebird biologist for the USFWS.

“It is more common for birds to miss the main migration route and fly down the Atlantic Flyway,” added Lanctot.

This particular bird, seen at Willapa Bay National Wildlife Refuge and likely headed back to South America, stuck around for about four days in September while refueling on insects and maybe some small crustaceans.

California Gulch/Warsaw Canyon confluence, Santa Cruz County, Arizona. We heard two birds first and then one perched in the open long enough for me to snap a couple of pictures. Special thanks to Richard Fray for guiding us to this remote location.

A male buffed-belly on a feeder at Estero Llano Grand SP. Weslaco, TX. Not a lot of hummers in Texas in winter, but some. Also saw a Black-chinned in the area.

Anthus rubescens

This bird is from the eastern population ssp. japonicus. It is now on the radar of many western European birders after the confirmation of a record in France. Previously the Buff-bellied Pipits that reached Europe were all considered to have been from American origin.

The Buff Banded Rail has struck ( what I thought) was a rather elegant pose when it visited our back lawn yesterday morning.I know that it's nothing too extraordinary, as I'd promised, but still feel that it's nice enough to show you.Was feeling a bit lazy so had rigged up my wife's make-up mirror so I could see out in the yard whiles I lay in bed reading the latest "Jack Reacher" novel. In any case, I did spot the Rail in time and managed a few shots;of which this one was by far the best.Am trying to only take shots when it stops for a second, so you can see it more clearly.

I found this Buff Tailed Bumble Bee (Bombus terrestris) crawling around the patio looking a little exhausted! After taking some photos, I put it back on some flowers which the bees like and so it appeared this one did. After getting a fill of nectar it flew off.

This incredible Buff tip moth was on my cherry tree. As you can see they are a master of disguise, and resemble a twig. Gives them a chance of not been seen by birds and ending up as dinner.
