The morning fog left a coating of water droplets on the budding trees ... which look to be in "mid to late April" condition already!

Didn't have my "real" macro lens with me ... but I think the Tamron 18-270 VR did a pretty good job on this.

The new lemon is in the centre of the flower and there is a beautiful aroma in my conservatory from the new growth.

The flowering apple tree in our yard started blooming last week and is in full bloom now. This shot is from last Friday--I was worried about it losing all of the flowers in the rain and wind we had over the weekend, but it survived intact...more to come from it. Have a great Wednesday.

At work in Angkor Wat, Cambodia

I am so far behind in my uploading, but I love this picture, so I needed to make it public. From my excursion to Angkor Wat with Dan and Adrian, January 2007.

A small universe in Central Park, born and baptized in early June showers

I haven't been out much lately for other than the essential things (work, supermarket) as I've had a bad cold, but today the sun shone and I couldn't resist a walk down the garden

Next to the gorgeous Torch Lily flower are two rather plain looking buds. One cannot imagine the beautiful flower that will emerge from these buds! The Torch Lily is known in Indonesian as bunga kecombrang or honje, Malay as bunga kantan and Thai as ดาหลา daalaa. In Thailand it is eaten in a kind of Thai salad preparation. In Karo, it is known as asam cekala (asam meaning 'sour'), and the flower buds, but more importantly the ripe seed pods, which are packed with small black seeds, are an essential ingredient of the Karo version of sayur asam, and are particularly suited to cooking fresh fish. To encourage my budding artist, I took her to Hobby Lobby yesterday to buy a "real" artist sketch pad and "real" artist pencils. We bought a variety, some charcoal pencils too. Here's one of her first sketches...a couple of lions and a paw print.

This gorgeous budding cone surprised us on a sunny afternoon walk.

I've never noticed that larch / lehtikuusi (Larix decidua) has such beautiful cones in the spring time :)

Live and learn!

(A tricky model due the wind, focus would be nicer on the cone..heh! I should've also cropped this since I hate the compo:)

äRRä of the day: April 20th 2007

the buds of a colorful flower, seen on my walk to kava.

A closer view of the budstick after the leaves have been trimmed. Note a portion of the petiole remains to facilitate inserting the bud

Our Rhododendron is beginning to flower

Nature is truly remarkable! I came across this beautiful rose flower adorning the nature strip of Baudin Street in Forrest during my early morning walk. The buds and exteriors of the petals have a rich orange color, but the inside color of the flowers is the most delicate, iridescent pink! Who would have guessed that?

Photograph taken with an iPhone 4 using the HDR option. Some items in the garden mulch altered using TouchRetouch. Image rotated and cropped using AntiCrop. Overall lighting and selective lighting changes applied using Snapseed. Image resized using Iris. Digital camera speckle noise reduction carried out with PaintShop Pro X4. Web app "Picnik" used to add a small amount of white matte to the margins of the photo, and to add a drop shadow border.
