Artwork done for the "Browsing Copy" project led by a Singapore based "Beautiful Design" studio, where an artist was handed an old book with an aim to make a piece of art out of it. I was given 'Walt & Skeezix' volume IV, and ended up making this mounted insect-like creature collection.

This shop called "Barter Books" is many things. The former railway station of Alnwick in Northumberland. A second hand bookshop of grand scale. A tourist attraction. The place where the "Keep Calm and Carry on" motivational posters have been rediscovered.
But first and foremost, it's a place you can't visit without buying something.

You know you are close to a Bear when you can count his eyebrow hairs, hahaha.
It was soooo exciting being in close proximity to these wonderful Coastal Brown Bears in Hallo Bay.
I wanna go back...I wanna go back...I wanna go back. Darn it, I put my waders and boots back on, clicked my heels three times, while making the magical incantation...but I'm still in NW Oregon, sigh.
I've got to work on my magical Bear incantations!

The browser on the Nexus One blows all other mobile browsers away. The key factor is the incredibly high-resolution screen which just seems to be made for surfing the web.
It leaves its competitors in the dust.
I've always enjoyed the work of British artist William Roberts (1895 - 1980) and so finding another of his works whilst browsing in a bookstore is always a treat. This is the cover to the Spring 1927 issue of "The New Coterie", a literature and art review magazine that appears to have been the descendent of "The Coterie" that had ceased publishing in 1921 after two years. The "New Coterie" ran for only six issues itself finishing in 1927. Roberts, a fascinating artist with an almost Cubist, modernist style, seems to have drawn the artwork for sveral of the magazine's covers and the sketches for this issue are held in the Tate's collections.
I know this is an old image, but I was browsing my "old" images and the instant I saw this, I realized that this image has to be in black and white. I hope you like it.

I'm walking down Melrose Ave & find a store called The Record Collector. After browsing the aisles of albums for a few minutes I'm greeted by the owner & collector of 800,000 albums Sandy Chase.I immediately tell him how impressed I am with his collection and that i wish i still had my mere 500 album collection."Why don't you still have them?" he queried."Laziness,'' I replied."I just got tired of constantly moving them around."The look on his face, the way it started contracting and contorting. His eyes transforming into blazing lasers and from pursed lips spilled rebuke and admonishment."You gave up on THE greatest invention of the 20th century, the phonograph, for portability and convenience." I stood silent with a little bit of attitude building. He continued,"You let technology tell you that digital was better...that CDs were the future.Well there in landfills now." I thought to myself, 'enough of this man and his hyperbole',but the more he spoke the more i realized i was talking to a man of great knowledge and passion. It was like the moment you realize its time to STOP talking and START listening.Sandy reminded me of all the great educators and mentors i've had who urged me to open my mind and be challenged by new ideas (maybe old ideas from Sandy's perspective). He spoke of the richness of the listening experience, the history & science of the genre.I became more attentive as my attitude ebbed. He held court for a good thirty minutes."There is no better listening experience than the phonograph. This is my art ,the collection of records. I am needed.I'm here because, eventually, they all come back to the black." I chuckled at his bon mot, then repeated the question I had asked of 99 previous strangers....he agreed..The only camera i had i was my iPhone and DAMN THAT i wasn't going to violate my prime directive for this project which is: NEVER RECREATE A STRANGER ENCOUNTER BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T HAVE A CAMERA OR THE CAMERA YOU WANTED.So when i pulled out my out my iPhone to to take his picture Sandy asked me,"you still shoot film?" I thought without a doubt this what an organic 100 strangers encounter is all about. I couldn't have planned a better finale for the project. Thank you Sanders"Sandy" Chase for participating and sharing your passion.
On a side note:this detailed post took several days longer i would've liked but i forgot my power adaptor for my laptop and discovered the app has has character limits.
