White-browed Antbird - Myrmoborus leucophrys erythrophrys - Белобровая муравьеловка

Bosque Bavaria, Villavicencio, Meta Department, Colombia, 02/22/2022

Barrow, Alaska, was practically nonexistent sixty years ago when my father was stationed at Point Barrow; but even then Browers Cafe was ancient. Originally built as a whaling station in the Nineteenth Century, it was a general store during my dad's time there.

These days, it's a very nice restaurant where I had a cheeseburger which was excellent verging on spectacular, and some Chinese dumplings which weren't quite so much.

Out back of the restaurant, on a long beach running down to the Arctic Ocean, are the skeletons of two whaling boats and one (partial) whale.

Looking onto Everton Brow from the ridge. The City was going through a misty stage during early February.

The red block sits on a plot previously occupied by flats, these went around 2000 give or take (not too sure there!).

Everton Brow is one of the older routes in the area, linking the old village to the river.

Lucky enough to see and photograph this Yellow-brow this morning at Sandwich Bay then a short while later it was trapped enabling some close study photos

English synonyms:

Rufous-fronted Bushtit, Rufous-fronted Long-tailed Tit, Black-browed Tit, Black-browed Bushtit, Blyth's Long-tailed Tit, Blyth's Tit, Black-headed Tit, Himalayan Tit

The Black-browed is an Asian barbet native to Peninsular Malaysia & Sumatra, where it inhabits foremost forests between 600 and 2,000 m altitude. A loud but sluggish & difficult-to-see canopy inhabitant of highland forests in peninsular Malaysia & Sumatra. Note the leaf-green body, brightly coloured face, & heavy black bill. More often heard than seen; listen for its long, unending series of hollow-sounding notes. Like many other barbets, it can be difficult to locate when singing, but can sometimes be seen at fruiting trees. Formerly regarded as the same species as Taiwan, Indochinese, and Chinese Barbets.

The Golden-browed Chlorophonia (Chlorophonia callophrys) is a small, colorful songbird found in the cloud forests of Central America, particularly in the highland regions of Costa Rica and western Panama. Recognizable by its vibrant plumage, the male features a striking combination of golden-yellow on the brow and throat, green body, and blue wings, while the female has a more subdued, olive-green coloration with hints of yellow. This species is often seen in pairs or small groups, foraging in the forest canopy for fruit, seeds, and insects. The Golden-browed Chlorophonia is a skilled singer, known for its melodic calls that echo through its dense, humid forest habitat. Although somewhat elusive and difficult to spot due to its small size and the dense environments it inhabits, the Golden-browed Chlorophonia is not currently at risk and is classified as of Least Concern by the IUCN.

The Turquoise-browed Motmot is a colourful, medium-sized bird of the motmot family. It inhabits Central America from south-east Mexico, to Costa Rica, where it is common and not considered threatened. It lives in fairly open habitats such as forest edge, gallery forest and scrubland. It is more conspicuous than other motmots, often perching in the open on wires and fences. From these perches it scans for prey, such as insects and small reptiles. White eggs (3-6) are laid in a long tunnel nest in an earth bank or sometimes in a quarry or fresh-water well.

The bird is approximately 34 cm long and weighs about 65 grams. It has a mostly green body with a rufous back and belly. There is a bright blue stripe above the eye and a blue-bordered black patch on the throat. The flight feathers and upperside of the tail are blue. The tips of the tail feathers are shaped like rackets and the bare feather shafts are longer than in other motmots. Although it is often said that motmots pluck the barbs off their tail to create the racketed shape, this is not true; the barbs are weakly attached and fall off due to abrasion with substrates and with routine preening.

Unlike most bird species, where only males express elaborate traits, the Turquoise-browed Motmot expresses the extraordinary racketed tail in both sexes. Research indicates that the tail has evolved to function differently for the sexes. Males apparently use their tail as a sexual signal, as males with longer tails have greater pairing success and reproductive success. In addition to this function, the tail is used by both sexes in a wag-display, whereby the tail is moved back-and-forth in a pendulous fashion. The wag-display is performed in a context unrelated to mating: both sexes perform the wag-display in the presence of a predator, and the display is thought to confer naturally selected benefits by communicating to the predator that it has been seen and that pursuit will not result in capture.

The Turquoise-browed Motmot is a well-known bird in its range and has been chosen as the national bird of both El Salvador and Nicaragua. It has acquired a number of local names including guardabarranco ("ravine-guard") in Nicaragua, torogoz in El Salvador (based on its call) and pájaro reloj ("clock bird") in the Yucatán, based on its habit of wagging its tail like a pendulum. In Costa Rica it is known as Momoto Cejiceleste.

NYE glitter brows with diamanté's! I felt like adding a sparkly touch to my makeup by having bold blue eyebrows. I feel the white eyeliner added an extra contemporary touch, which paired with the classic red lips to create the elegance.
