Bempton, Yorkshire
The highlight of my birdwatching year was our spring break in Yorkshire to catch up with this visitor from the South Atlantic that returned to Bempton on 30 March 2022 and was resident on and off until the start of August. Without question, my Bird of the Year and I really hope it has escaped the dreadful Avian Flu that has ravaged our seabirds this year.
I hope 2023 will bring respite to the birds and our wildlife in general as well as those people still suffering from barbarous aggression. May your own New Year be filled with peace, prosperity and wonderful photographs. As always your comments throughout the year have been much appreciated. Happy 2023!

(Thalassarche melanophrys). These birds are so elegant and their 'eye liner' and plumage is magnificent! The black-browed albatross is a medium-sized albatross, at 80 to 95 cm (31–37 in) long with a 200 to 240 cm (79–94 in) wingspan and an average weight of 2.9 to 4.7 kg (6.4–10.4 lb). It can have a natural lifespan of over 70 years. It has a dark grey saddle and upperwings that contrast with the white rump, and underparts. The black-browed albatross is circumpolar in the southern oceans, and it breeds on 12 islands throughout that range. In the Atlantic Ocean, it breeds on the Falkland Islands, Islas Diego RamÃrez, and South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. These images were taken on The Falkland Islands.
