Broken bird house made for some urban decay delight!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

A cyberpunk rendition of the Broken Vessel from Hollow Knight! I tried to use a majority of one kind of brick for the head, cloak, and infection and thought it came together well.

Originally, this was Jeremiah Ambler & Sons, Ltd, Midland Mills, Bradford, Combers, spinners and weavers of all kinds of wool and hair. The company itself was established in 1783, but did not move here until nearly a hundred years later in 1871 when this place was built. Jeremiah himself is buried in nearby Undercliffe cemetery. Leeds University hold many of the early business records for here. More recently this place was British Mohair Supplies Limited, and it closed eleven years ago. Today, little remains.

I say little remains. This part of the mill is heroin central. Needles and foil are scattered on the floor everywhere, along with blankets and old coats.I normally ignore the remnants of drug taking, but we spent some time looking. It was a pretty sobering sight. It's not on T.V, or in a film. It was clear that this was the bottom rung of the ladder of life. There was no other step down, except to death. Luckily, there was no one at home today, but there has been recently. Midland Mills is earmarked for flats. At sometime in the last 5 years, the weaving sheds have gone.

Sooner or later, Midland Mills will be converted into upmarket apartments, and the last whispers of its industrial past silenced with laminate flooring and plasterboard. In the meantime it waits for the developers, trashed, empty and dangerous. I loved it.

The end of the trail to Broken Hill at Torrey Pines, where the hill crumbles away at both sides into a thin knife. The rock is very soft here, and erosion turns it into fantastic ripples.

I swear that tree jumpped out in front of me!!!

Strangely, this view of scattered broken logs continues to draw my attention. I guess the world’s superficial, unrealistic hype about perfection on the surface was a disappointing contrast to this authentic, rustic scene of beauty. How interesting just to contemplate how and why they were there, and the power of time that was beyond ordinary human measures!

The building Broken Angel is a unique melding of art and architecture designed by my father Arthur Wood, and located in the Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn. The original building was bought at a city auction in 1979, and major construction was completed in 2002. On 10/10/06 a structure at the top of Broken Angel caught fire. Thanks to the quick action of the New York City fire department no one was harmed, and only minimal damage was done to the building. Unfortunately the fire brought the attention of the department of buildings (DOB) who vacated my parents, the owners and guardians of Broken Angel. My family is currently working with the architecture firm, Jordan Parnass Digital Architecture www.jpda.net/news.html, to bring the building to code, however we are still being threatened with demolition by the DOB. On Wednesday 11/15/06 the Brooklyn Supreme Court will begin hearings on whether the actions of the DOB are justified. Additionally we will be selling photographs and paintings as a fundraiser at Artez’n (444 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn NY). These works of art can also be viewed and purchased on line at www.artezn.com/product/?product_id=5246 .We are attempting to raise funds to save the building and develop it in a way that will help the community. In selling our art work we are hoping to make Broken Angel a permanent art installation and fixture of Brooklyn. For those who are interested in viewing the building additional photos of Broken Angel can by seen at www.flickr.com/photos/onebadapple/ . In closing my family would like to say thank you to all of the people who have been so gracious in their offers of help. We deeply appreciate your support.

This next series of pics is about an old local amusement park. The place seems to be abandoned, since no one actually cares about it. Not long ago, this very establishment was booming. Wonder what happened?

"And how can you mend a broken heart?

How can you stop the rain from falling down?

How can you stop the sun from shining?

What makes the world go round?

How can you mend a this broken man?

How can a loser ever win?

Please help me mend my broken heart and let me live again"

What might be the story behind?

A typically Cuban shot of a broken down car in Havana.

We all feel like this sometimes, the inner self laying naked and broken on the ground, curled in the foetal position. Unable to move but somehow we feel secure laying here so we stay just a little while longer.

Outside windows are not the only windows to be broken. It's hard to find any inside windows intact either.

Relationships are like glass, sometimes it's better to leave them broken than try to hurt yourself putting it back together.

This shards weren't small enough for me, so I stomped on them with my heel. See the result!
