I found this discarded broken wine glass in the front yard amongst last years autumn leaves and thought I'd have a play before taking it to the bottle bank.
Inspiration came from the Macro Monday's group theme "Broken" today. I saw the theme when I got home this evening and next thing I knew I was raking in the kitchen bin looking for the champagne flute I broke on Saturday....

I close a large steel gate to the parking lot where I work. This day as the gate was closing my foot got caught under the gate as I was walking in front of it and was slammed to the ground. The middle toe took the brunt of the collision. There wasn't much I could do afterwards, the other toes acted as a splint and I let it heal on its own. The toenail on my pinky toe was not the result of the gate. I have an enormous cuticle on that toe. About twice a year the cuticle gets caught on my sock as I put it on and separates from the toenail. Everytime I put my sock on it continues to get caught for about a week, very painful. When it becomes totally separate from the nail I will trim it with cuticle scissors. This instance captured in the photograph was about a week after I pulled it out completely, again very painful. It grew back. Now I am very careful when I put my socks on and it is still attached to the toenail. The problem with that is the cuticle grows faster than the toenail so it always feels like an ingrown toenail. I will post a photo of the cuticle when it grows a little bigger. Currently it is bigger than I have ever seen it.
Jumping on my sister's trampoline. Really just a freak thing, she was crying telling me she twisted her ankle. The break is the lower leg right by the knee. :(

Day.7
Well today after school me and Elvis went back to the construction site again lol. I found a beaten up shopping cart down there and got a few shoots of it.. This time we didn't stay there too long cuz we were both getting hungry. Oh and today was my first day of going to the senior paper tutorial thing, and it sucked I only get 10 min of lunch >=[
Here are the glass beads again from my broken necklace incident yesterday (www.flickr.com/photos/bjornert/8514194359/), this time on some boardwalk planks.
Some lady came up to me while I was taking this to ask me "if I was ok"... Apparently its not normal to lie on your stomach, by yourself, in the middle of the day, on a public walkway -- even if you are just trying to get a really low perspective on a photo. Who knew!
I guess sometimes you just have to let people think you're weird in order to get the shot you want. Oh well :)
Just found out why the subwoofer in my dad's computer speakers has never worked well, it's been breaking!

City uses unethical tactics to dismiss BROKEN ANGEL case (pending since
11/01/06)
PRESS CONFERENCE:
360 Adams Street in front of Brooklyn Supreme Court
11:30 AM FRIDAY MARCH 13th
After struggling for a year and a half to get their grievances heard
before a jury, Arthur and Cynthia Wood were blind sided by a motion to
dismiss on the day that their jury trial was scheduled to begin. In
order to have this happen both the judge and the city attorney acted
in an unethical manner. They may have assumed that this
elderly couple would just walk away. They were mistaken.
On March 12th the city of New York unceremoniously dismissed Arthur and
Cynthia Wood's Case against the city calling for damages resulting from
an illegal arrest and seizure of residence.
On October 18 2006 the department of Buildings of New York city seized
the home of Arthur and Cynthia Wood, without a legal court order, claiming that it was an unsafe structure. The Woods were denied any chance to challenge these claims. They were informed by the city that
since they owned a property they were to be denied access to any part
of the city's shelter system. Subsequently they were forced to spend
the majority of the winter in a broken down VW van. Even the Red Cross
was instructed to deny them shelter.
According to Arthur Wood, “I spent the last year and a half diligently
following the letter of the law in an effort to get my grievances heard
by a jury of my peers. At the thirteenth hour a judge accepted an
illegal motion to dismiss the case”. The defendants are not
allowed to introduce any motion to dismiss without prior service and
allowing sufficient time to answer. Somehow, this motion was not only
allowed to be entered but was approved by the judge. This is a
travesty of justice. Not only did the lawyer for the city act in an
illegal manner but this action was approved by the sitting judge. The
city must answer "How was this allowed to happen?".
Mr. Wood submitted formal complaints on March 12th against the Hon.
Lawrence Knipel the judge in this matter and Carolyn M. Planas the city
attorney in this matter.
As a final note the City of New York has stopped all progress on the construction of Broken Angel.
Questions can be directed to Mr. Wood or his son Christopher Wood via email at chriswood718@yahoo.com
Setup used for this series of shots, excuse the mess which built up over a couple of days of playing with this.
The chunk of broken glass is sat on a sheet of glass from a 12" x 10" (300mm x 250mm) picture frame and has the underside spray painted black to create a black mirror.
This in turn is sat on an old glass shelf (material not important) which is used to raise everything above the tables surface. This is to enable the snooted light to be placed underneath.
There are 3 x 20W CFL lamps in use for these shots. The first is the snooted light under the shelf, which has a Pringles tube fitted to it and this creates the circle of light on the background.
The other 2 lights are placed to the sides, behind screens of tracing paper to illuminate the subject tself and care is taked to avoid light from these leaking onto the background, within the frame of the shot anyway. You will have noticed that the screen on the left is partly blacked out with a piece of card, this is to give a narower light to bring out the texture in the glass, rather than an even illumination.
Due to the slow shutter speeds, mounting the camera on a tripod is essential for this type of shot.
Hopefully, some info which will prove useful amongst this lot.
I guess putting the various shots together in the comments below will show the differences well to make comparisons. Worth a try anyway :)
Uh-Oh I dropped my iPhone 4... :( Time to choose a new one :)
