Completely hidden from view under the safety of trees and vines, the brick smokestack and furnace of the Muscoda Mines is perfectly preserved and beautiful. To find one intact is nearly impossible.
And a lot more. Ecuadorian bricks are huge--about 7 x 14 inches and more than 3" thick. They are always unloaded and stacked by hand.
A view of the scrollwork on the Summit Street bridge. I think it's exquisite. I photographed it (relatively unsuccessfully) years ago, with my old Nikon Coolipx 950, and have always wanted to get back there and try again. I'm not convinced that I've really captured the essence of the bridge, but here's the latest attempt anyway.
