Took a pile of pictures at Brick Fiesta this year. Turnout was a bit disappointing compared to last year, but still had fun. I seemed to be damn near the only non-Texan at the con.
Brick Lane London. Street market every Sunday but I was there on a Saturday so missed that. Great old colourful area of east London
The site of Cudworth brick works is shown on the map (according to old frechvillian). There was another brickworks southwest of the village which I suspect was the source of 'Cudworth Junction' bricks, being next to Cudworth Junction.
Here is a very nice double wide mobile home located on Highway 80. The owner used brick and morter to skirt the mobile home.
The brick steps are a nice touch.
Is this the last street paved in brick in the City of Beloit?
Slated for rebuilding and resurfacing this year to make way for new ACE HARDWARE store in downtown Beloit.

well I took advantage of that summer clearance sale at GI Brick and ordered 2 days ago and got it today. That's gonna make me want to order from them more often. GI Brick just got another customer ;)
Yeah, if you couldn't tell, I've got a lot of painting to do, so I'll get to it :)

This year's Brick Fiesta was a bit underwhelming compared to the last two, and I didn't exactly help matters by hardly building all year. But had a good time hanging out with Steve and admiring his huge...ships.

This is from a brick on my house, which was built in 1873, over 130 years ago. The bricks look smooth to the naked eye. Taken with a Sigma 50mm f2.8 DG Macro.
Occasionally, there are happy things on the walls here, like this little smiley face. We walked past a group of teenagers smoking in an alleyway on our tour. I was lagging behind, taking in the sights and taking pictures, and one of them said "faggot" and skirted back to his friends. I think it was aimed at me, so I did my best English "fuck off," and found this wall appeasing. All in all, though, the city seems vaguely hostile. It's a lot more like an American city than any other I've found in Europe thus far. The drivers are less careful, the people are a bit less friendly/nice, etc.
This took about four days of incredible work - here is the final path before the joiner sand was added and the plantings/edging completed
I call it "Krissi's Up the Garden Path workout"
- pickax swings (20 lb ax) 100 reps
take as long as you need to complete all 100 reps - don't cut off your toes
- deadlift warmups, 10 reps
using a pair of vice grips, pull 3" rusted garden 'staples' out of clay
- shoveling wet earth/clay, 100 reps
- sandbag deadlift and toss (50 lb bags) 11 reps
- grip strength/wheelbarrow combo:
- load brick pavers 4 at a time into wheelbarrow
- carry wheelbarrow 20 yards (though obstacle course - don't run over the tortoise) and unload bricks
(this combo can be done with heavy weight and light reps or light weight and more reps. Must move 50 SF of bricks.)
