From last summer. Joan and I spent a week camping in sight of Lake Michigan; the wind never dropped to a comfortable level.
Usually this beach is walkable, and quite attractive. Not on this day.
The Breakers is prepared for the holidays. Cornelius Vanderbilt II purchased the grounds in 1885 for $450,000 (equivalent to $15.7 million in 2024). The previous mansion on the property was owned by tobacco baron Pierre Lorillard IV. It burned on November 25, 1892. Vanderbilt commissioned architect Richard Morris Hunt to rebuild it in splendor. Vanderbilt insisted that the building be made as fireproof as possible, resulting in a structure composed of masonry and steel trusses, with no wooden parts. He even required that the boiler be located away from the house in an underground space below the front lawn. The 70-room mansion, with a gross area of 138,300 square feet and 62,482 square feet of living area on five floors. Richard Morris Hunt designed the mansion in the Renaissance Revival style; the interior decor was by Jules Allard and Sons and Ogden Codman Jr. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971 and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1994. It is also a contributing property to the Bellevue Avenue Historic District. The property is owned and operated by the Newport Preservation Society as a museum and is open for visits all year. 44 Ochre Point Avenue, Newport, R.I. 24 December 2025
Though I love the end result of HDR work, I am still very confused about the role of Post processing in photography. I guess I am ok with minor adjustments like saturation boost, exposure adjustment etc, which are things that you could control in the film days as well. But when we start playing around with multiple layers and cutting, pasting and merging stuff, thats when it stops being photography as far as I am concerned. It might still be an art, but I am not sure if it qualifies as photographic work.
I had to use fill flash to get the details in the foreground. This is probably one of my best photos with such a dynamic range. Not bad for an amateur, I'd say :)

The replacement Klixon CDLA-80 circuit breaker is the shiny black round box with two screws attached to two red wires. This is a circuit breaker that sits between the coach battery and the coach fuses and electrical circuits in the RV. The previous circuit breaker was broken and made rattling noises. This is a like-for-like replacement with the same exact part. Everything worked after Lisa installed the new circuit breaker.

Wave breaking on Jetty in Cape May, NJ.
One day out of seven actually had a sunrise where you could see the sun(BTW...this wasn't the 'one' day). Likewise, no beautiful sunsets either. Every day started and ended with overcast skies with fog and haze....which sanwiched oppressively hot and humid days!
