Nature semi-abstract -- bare tree branches against a blue California sky with clouds in early March 2017

This is a photo of the spring branches of a bush growing beside the river. The image was processed with the Painterly 2 preset in Photomatix, which has created this stained glass effect.
It is difficult to get close enough to a branch to photograph it as they are so far off the ground! The pinecones and fronds are so delicate and tiny! Amazes me.

This is another attempt to branch out to find new perspectives on dreary scenes. I often see these wonderful curvy branches in bare trees but I am not able to isolate the features in a way I like. This one comes close to capturing it in an artistic way.
I played with tree branches dripping icicles by zeroing in on a section, going heavy on the B&W, and grunting the background.

After running coal loads to Bloomfield, I got word the Central New England would also be running brick empties down the Armory Branch that afternoon. Here we see ex Metro North BL04 # 404 bringing 2 boxes south by the Topstone Golf Course in S. Windsor, CT.
