Again something a bit different from my usual big scene landscape work. Im trying to look for the details more...be a bit more abstract too... I didn't want to shoot the usual big rock reflection at Loch Morlich on a still morning... but this submerged branch caught my attention.
I always enjoy finding this marshland bird because they are fun to photograph as it will often provide good looking poses. I spotted this bird at the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge that abuts the Mexican border.
I took this image near nine in the morning with the sun that was hitting the heron directly. I managed the dark background because of a high shutter speed that picked up the light that was gleaming from the branches and the bird's feathers. The back ground was solid shrubs and trees that were dark in color that my settings couldn't pick up. The result I thought was a pleasant surprise.

Snow Branches loaded down with a wet snow in this picture after an overnight snow storm in North Carolina.

Branch drops closer to water as heron walks further out along branch . The sinking branch allows the heron to silently get closer to his prey in the water. This is one smart green heron
